CollegeTown Tempe University Crossings Apartment Complex Cockroach and Bed Bug Infestations, No Security, Violation of Tempe Laws Tempe, Arizona |

Living at this complex has been the worst experience of my life. Do NOT be fooled by their persuasive words and upgraded units...this place is a HEALTH HAZARD. My roommate and myself have lived here for two years, and the new management taking over during the Summer of 2010 seemed promising, but they have brought nothing but superficial changes, rent increases, and frustration. First, in the summer of 2010 our building was infested with cockroaches. After ten series of bombing, baiting, spraying, and fumigating, myself and my roommate still kill around 10 cockroaches a day. They roam our kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms, crawl in our clothes and on our belongings all day. There was no apologies or compensation for the constant trouble we had to go through for this issue. Then, in November 2010, we got infested with BED BUGS. We had to clear our kitchen of everything (including the fridge!), strip our beds, turn over our furniture, bag our clothing, and live like this for three weeks with no compensation. Our requests to move to another unit in the complex were ignored. Mattresses still line the dumpsters as other renters experience the same. As of today, when temperatures are reaching the high 90's in Phoenix, the complex refuses to turn on the air conditioning. Our air temperature in our apartment, as well as other of our friends, has stayed around 90-95 degrees over the past three week, and the office tells us they will not turn on the air until early May. The office has been informed that the air being this high in the apartment is AGAINST THE LAW, according to Tempe city codes, they still refuse to even consider turning it on. Although having the utilities paid seems great, this does not mean that they can break Tempe city laws of an adequate thermal environment. The apartments on either side of this complex, whom also have utilities paid, have their air conditioning turned on. What the new management company HAS had plenty of time and money to put into this complex has had ZERO benefit to the residents. They renovated their own leasing office on site (which happens to be air conditioned...how nice for them...). They renovated the pool with superficial flowing fountains that are extremely loud, built a bocce ball court, painted the exterior, and purchased flat screen TVs for their own office. The ONLY renovations they had added to the interior apartments are low-flowing toilets, which again, benefits themselves as they are paying for the water. Dealing with the office has been nothing but stress and frustration. My roommate and I were screamed at when we complained about our infestation issues, and the management company argues that the air conditioning is not a priority for them even while residents and pets are suffering from heat stroke and health-related issues. They will not respect you, and they will not treat you as a customer nor a homeowner...you are only an annoyance to them. |
