Colburn Electronic Controls, LLC Chris Colburn Shotty Workmanship, Failed to deliver promised services, refusal of services, Terrible Customer Service
13th of May, 2011 by User306198
These folks have recently determined to enter the RV and Marine repair business associated with generator repair services. In addition to receiving complaints surrounding the generator services through the BBB, I am now adding another complaint regarding the RV repair business, including shotty workmanship, failure to provide services, failure to order/deliver parts, and refusal to provide services as agreed. Look elsewhere, if you at all question their services, they will send you packing, suggesting that you take your business elsewhere.

Customer Makes False Statements Online - Colburn Seeking Prosecution

Please read below, it is our response to this customer's litigation threat after I refused to work on anything he owns. Now he is filling the web with slander. You are welcome to contact our company for more information.

Customer: Jay Fuller, West Frankfort, IL

Mr. Fuller,

I must say I am only somewhat surprised to receive an e-mail like this from you based on your comments as we previously spoke in person, whereas you continually want services at little or no cost to you as you bully your way around our shop with the people here as well as myself. With that said, we have no desire to work on anything you own ever again.

For clarity to whom you are copying on your e-mail, I will add to your documentation the events that have transpired so far in the short time we have known you:

• You came to our shop to look at some of the RVs that are stored on our lot and shown for sale by their respective owners. You saw the units you asked to see and left, all was well.
• You came to our shop again, in a RV that you recently purchased in Florida.
o You explained that you searched all over, found a Flair RV in Florida that was less expensive than all others you had seen, and then travelled to purchase it sight-unseen.
o You asked for the following services:
? System check for furnace, generator, refrigerator, air conditioner and appliances.
? Replace black p-trap drain in rear room (already disassembled/removed by you)
? Repair leak at shower water mixer (access panel already removed by you)
? Chassis mounted LP tank, quote to paint
? Fix or replace the cabin entry door handle lock assembly (a residential dead-bolt was added by someone else)
? Inspect roof seals
? Install 2 Max Air vent covers
o You asked for the following services after understanding we do not work on Chassis Systems:
? Drive RV to Vernell's Interstate (the local chassis repair shop) and have them:
• Change engine oil and spark plugs if needed
• Service brakes
• Check belts and all fluids
• Check battery water levels
• Charge dashboard air conditioner
• Check slack in steering wheel
• Check alignment
• Check air lift system
• Quote rear tires (4)
• Check auto-park
? We agreed per your request, at no cost to you, to deliver your RV and your list to Vernell's whereas you were their customer for those items and would be paying them directly.

We completed the list of items that were requested from our shop, and to reiterate:

• The systems check revealed:
o Awning arm loose and held together with a tie-wrap.
? The arm required replacement, the part was ordered, and it is due to arrive this week. You have not yet paid for this part or its installation.
o Refrigerator roof vent was rotten/disintegrated.
? We notified you and received your approval to replace the vent. It is currently installed, and you already paid for it.
o The right-rear stove burner would not light. The assembly was falling apart, it was reassembled and worked properly. You were not charged for this repair.
o The refrigerator required a recall. The recall was performed at no cost to you.
o The generator oil level was low. Oil was added to the proper level, and the generator was tested and operated properly at load. You were charged for the oil (1qt). We recommended service, oil change and spark plugs, you approved, the parts were ordered, and the parts (genuine filter and plugs) are due to arrive this week. You have not yet paid for these parts or their installation.
• The black p-trap was replaced, and you paid for the part and installation.
• The water leak at the shower was repaired by replacing a faulty fitting, and you paid for the fitting and its installation.
• We were hesitant in painting your chassis LP tank due to what it is and how it is installed, and therefore struggled with a quote. You have not paid for anything to do with this request.
• Your cabin entry door handle assembly is no longer made, and no longer available from the manufacturer or distributors. We found that Doug's Lock & Key (local locksmith) can make you a key to match the lock and repair the barrel. You have not paid for anything to do with this request.
• Your roof seals are okay at this time and do not yet require replacement. You have not paid for anything to do with this request.
• We installed the 2 Max Air vents, and you paid for the vents and their installation.

Last weekend, while your RV was still at Vernell's, you came to our shop again. Deanna and your wife were present. You asked about us installing another item, a backup camera you purchased from Amazon online. I said I would have to see it and quote it, and I was concerned about possible lack of support from whatever brand it was. I said that you could bring in the camera for me to see, and I would let you know if we can install it and quote it after I looked at it. You also asked about installing jacks, and I said we will have to see the RV again to see what you have and quote installation, then you firmly stated, "No, I already paid for the installation". I was surprised and said, "I don't think you paid for that". Again firmly you stated, "Yes I did, I already paid for that". Your wife looked embarrassed by your comment as she rolled her eyes and looked at the ceiling as I looked at her in response. I asked Deanna to go get your work order and invoice, and as she turned to go get it, you then said, "no, I'm just joking, I was just playing with you". I didn't think you were joking then, and there is no need to state what I think now.

Monday morning you called and let us know that Vernell's would be finished with your RV in the next day or so, and at that time, Deanna told you the parts would not be in until the end of the week, but you were welcomed to drop off the RV when you were ready.

Next, you picked up your RV from Vernell's and paid them for their services. You came to our shop, and asked us (Rick Park) to look at your RV and tell you if it has jacks mounted to its frame. Rick inspected your frame, and told you no jacks are installed. You asked Deanna to quote a tracking satellite dish and propane grill accessory hose. You were quoted for the satellite dish you wanted, and your response was, "That's my cost?", and insisted that the price wasn't right even though it had just come from the distributor. You have not paid for anything to do with these requests.

Deanna called you last Thursday morning to give you an update on the parts that we ordered for your RV (none of which have you paid for). She stated they will be in this week, and you blew-up on the phone stating, "You are striking out big today", and you couldn't believe it is taking a week for the parts to get here, and you were going to call Onan yourself and find out what the hold-up is. Deanna approached me crying and stating that she felt intimidated and harassed by you because of the things you demand, the untruthful things you have stated to us, and your aggressive pushy bully demeanor.

Thursday you came into our shop again. You approached Rick Park and stated, "What, did they leave you here while they went to the bank? I will watch the cash register while they're gone"! Rick informed me of this creepy comment as I was walking in to the shop toward you, and I immediately decided our relationship was ending immediately. I politely told you that I decided you were not a good fit as a customer for our shop, I told you your rear-view camera was inside your RV, and you should go somewhere else for your RV work for now on. You said, "that's how you're going to run your business"?, and I reiterated by saying Larry's Trailer Sales and Service is in Christopher, and Kamper's Supply is in Carterville, and that is the only help I can give you from this point forward.

Now, today, I get the e-mail below from you and my position has only grown much more firmly. Please do not contact us or come here anymore. A closed circuit surveillance system has been installed and if you trespass from this point forward, the footage may be held against you. The only things that you have paid for have already been delivered/installed. We are not in possession of anything of yours, and we prefer that you no longer contact us. I am exercising my right to refuse service to you. That doesn't mean you get a refund for work that was previously rendered.

Everything mentioned above has transpired in the last 10 days except for your initial contact with us prior to you purchasing a RV.

The website you are quoting (generatorpanels.com) in your previous email is from our circuit board repair business and its consumers, and as you know, it has nothing to do with anything you have or any services rendered to you, and it is not in any way applicable to your situation. Again, please stop harassing us in attempt to get something for nothing. There are others that do what we do in our area, their names are mentioned above, please work with them or someone else.

I will send this correspondence to the BBB in our defense to mitigate your slanderous untrue written and verbal comments.
