Misleading job offer
1st of Mar, 2012 by Nicki
Do not give your money! First they charge you a so called refundable $50 fee to book yor training seminar. They tell you you will make $17 an hour for a maximum of 100 hours a month and a $500 split when training for each processed application. You sign a paper on your initial interview that will haunt you as it is their disclaimer that so that you can't get money refunded in the future. Then comes the $600 affiliation fee that is valid for one year. That's the part that comes before they even hire you, they tell you its refundable as long as your police check and bankruptcy check clears. It is after that when I read all the fine print in their documents that i signed that you are not an employee, nor representing or affiliated with Coast to Coast. You are a contractor and to top it $17 is paid with a maximum of 3 hours a day and only paid if aa accepted and processed application for a loan goes through. I asked for my money back and the president Nav told me because i was selected its non refundable...he's the same man who told me it was. Why r u paying an affiliation fee if u r not affiliated with the company???? No good answers except pressure to put another $350 down then $350 for the course then 2 weeks training not paid then more fees. I'm out $650 and now desperately need a job because of applying for this job. Whatever you do don't give them momey it gets you nowhere except filled with anger and an empty pocket!

I smelled scam when I read the job posting but I followed through knowing that I may have to play a gambit during the process.

At first I thought the company was a recruiting agency because they did not list the company name, only the telephone number (905-670-2801) and address (2550 Argentia Road, Suite 115, Mississauga, ON L%N 5R1)

I called this company yesterday about the job posting and they immediately scheduled an interview. The only requirement was to bring a resume. That was red flag 1.

The interview process was very brief with very few questions related to my resume, qualifications, and skills.

The HR manager offered a position in the weekend seminar that would cost a refundable $50. The purpose of the seminar was claimed to be an information session to "decide whether or not the job is for you." There were 40 seats available at Meadowvale Community Centre. There are seminars held every Wednesday and Saturday.

While the above was being told to me, I ran the following through my head at the time:

2 sessions per week x 40 seats x $50 x 4 weeks = $16, 000 revenue per month from seminars alone. This is revenue generated from job applicants deciding whether or not the job is for them. Red Flag #2 popped up in my mind. A legitimate business should not have to generate revenue from its prospective job applicants. Even Edward Jones pays your support income and reimburses your certification requirements and continuing education expenses.

Then comes the $600 affiliation fee. When I asked about this, I didn't get a clear answer as to what I was being affiliated with. Red Flag #3.

I paid the $50 as the gambit (sunk cost if they didn't refund me), went home, did my research on the company as Coast to Coast Financial Corp or Coast to Coast International Group (or whatever else they call themselves) in Mississauga.

There were too many inconsistencies between the websites posted on their "Preliminary Application Form". Red Flag #4.

The fifth and final red flag was the complaints of people that claim to have been scammed by the company. I can't validate whether or not these people were saying the truth, but I give weight to the fact that enough of them exist and corroborate the potential scam scenario I played through my mind.

I got my $50 back but I will not risk/waste any more time chasing what by all accounts is an unaffiliated contract position.

Avoid this company if you are responding to their misleading job posting.

Hi Friend, I am Vicky,

Coast to Coast is real thief. They will steal you in a smart manner. They still $ 1000 per head ($50+$600+$350). Run away friend and don't trust them.

Even the police authority will not be able to do nothing, cause you sign a contract where it is written "not refundable".

Let God take care of them

Run away and trust those which have suffer.

I feel empathy for you, because it happened to me too. You are not alone.

I was desperate for an opportunity too that I let myself be swindled... I agree do not trust this company, a bunch of crooks in suits...

They are not to be trusted with your money, if you want to be in the industry of brokering, call a trusted mortgage broker brand and get advice on how to best get in the industry, instead of listening to two bit hacks talk about how the industry works and mislead people to giving hard earned money away to people who don't deserve it...

Coast to Coast can suck my d!@&

Anyone scammed by Pilbara Coal Resources and OHS Mine Training lodge your complaints with anyone that will listen. I have been to Fair Trade Victoria, local and federal police, newspapers and TV's stations and much more I want these people stopped as it been going since January 2012 and maybe still out there under a different name. They took $1650.00 from me and $2400 from my son in law. How many other's have been taken by this scam and how much has this person got away with as no one has reported it.

Hi All,

I am a victim too, and I have been scammed by Centum Coast of Coast Financial (at 1312 Britiannia before & now 2550 Argentia, Mississauga) in big times. Their strategy is to gain the trust by helping people to get a mortgage agent license first; then they would mislead them about how the mortgage financing or refinancing business works so that they can get paid without delivering the service that they have said so at the beginning. I have consulted FSCO and they have recommended me the lawyer/ paralegal to go after them. I have hired KLP Paralegal Services (905-601-5601) to go after them. I believe in the legal system of Canada. As such, I believe that justice will be served. I will post the outcome when available.

I have transferred my mortgage license to CityCan Financial in Toronto in October, 2011 and I have completed files and get paid under their supervision. (I purchased leads from Centum Coast to Coast Financial but none of them could get me any deals.)

You may call me at 416-888-5508 if you require additional information.

Yours truly,

William Liu
