Clayton Motor Company Charles Fraizer - Low Car Salesman Sold us a crappy SUV and Took our $4,000 cash! Knoxville, Tennessee |

This Ripoff Report is about the used car lot "Clayton Motor Company" located at 4500 Clinton Highway Knoxville, TN 37912. Their phone number is 865-686-7760. My wife, our son and I drove to this car lot on September 29, 2012 around 5:00 p.m. We also have a baby, which was only 21 days old, that we had left in care of my mother in law while we car shopped. We also had sold the car we had that same day and went car shopping that after noon. The last place we arrived that Saturday afternoon was Clayton Motor Company (4500 Clinton Highway Knoxville, TN 37912) and we had got out of the vehicle and the car salesman, Charles "Uncle Charles" Frazier, came out a greeted us with the following "Hello, what can I help you guys with today?" And my wife replied "We are looking for a good and very dependable 4 door car or a 4 door SUV, a vehicle big enough for Our children (oldest one was 5 years old at the time of sale, youngest one only 21 days old) and myself and my husband." Charles Frazier then asked us "Do you have any money down?" and we both replied and said "Yes" Then Charles questioned "How much to yall have down" My wife replied "We have $4,000.00 to put down" and he suddenly replied "Yall are the people I've been looking for all day!" He suddenly showed us, what seemed to be a great SUV, a 2002 Jeep Liberty Limited 4WD. He said "You will be able to sign and drive this car home today with the $4,000.00. (and I quote from my wife saying earlier "We are looking for a good and very dependable 4 door car or a 4 door SUV, a vehicle big enough for Our children (oldest one was 5 years old at the time of sale, youngest one only 21 days old) and myself and my husband.") We made it through the complete sale which included, the test drive, paper work and handing them the $4,000.00 cash. Though in the middle of the sale, the Tennessee vs. Georgia game was on and the car salesman were listening to the game on their radio in the office and showroom right after we handed them the $4,000.00, Mr. Charles Frazier came out in the middle of them processing our paper work and said "guys I'll be back very quickly I have to make a run to the gas station really quick." We had got up and walked around the lot just browsing the other cars. We seen him pull back in and he got out of the car, and he looked and said "Uncles Charles had to make a quick stop" and he had two cases of beer in a plastic bag walking into the workplace for him and the other salesmen to drink during and after the Tennessee vs. Georgia game. After the paper work had been filed, we were handed the keys and Charles was like we will give you guys $15.00 in free gas today, I just have to ride to the gas station with yall so I can use the company gas card. So we all loaded up in the 2002 Jeep Liberty Limited 4WD (note that Charles was in the back seat with my 5 year old son talking his head off and you could tell that his speak was slurred and that he was clearly drunk by this point.) and we drove down Clinton Highway to the red light where Merchants Drive intersects Clinton Highway and we turned right at the light. We arrived at the Pilot station were the Baskin Robbins is and he got out and pumped the $15.00 of gas in the Jeep for us. We got the jeep home perfect with no problems and then it was just a few days later we went to start the Jeep and it wouldn't start. We narrowed down all the possibilities and we got it down to the battery. The battery, which we was informed by Mr. Charles Frazier that had recently been replaced, was completely shot. We tried calling the car lot and I personally got a hold of Charles and asked him if they would cover the battery and he said "No there is nothing that we can do" We were informed to give them a call if anything was to happen to that vehicle and they would help us out. We called them back to see if we could speak to the manager and we were placed on hold for the longest time to only have waited for the person to come back on the phone and said "would you like to leave a message and they will call you back shortly?" So i left a message for the manager to call me and my wife back. It has literally been almost 1 week shy of 3 months that we have had that vehicle and the manager still hasn't contacted us back. The only contact they have had with us was on 10/26/2012 when Charles replied to a email i sent him on October 3, 2012 at 4:43 p.m. This is the email I sent along with his reply (which was 23 days later from my email) From: [email protected] I hope your vehicle is serving you well. Thanks... Charles Frazier -----Original Message----- From: Shawn R. Bowling To: charlesfrazier1 Sent: Wed, Oct 3, 2012 4:43 pm Subject: 02 Liberty Trouble We just had someone come charge the battery in the Liberty for us and it would stay on for a moment and then go right back off. If it needs a new battery or a new alternator, will you all replace it and the car being leased through you all and as much money as we paid down? Because we have only had the vehicle 4 days and now it won't stay running. Thanks. With the email being motioned, we just found out last night the motor has went out in this vehicle. We have had the Jeep for almost 3 months now, and we are now without a vehicle. Charles and the other salesmen at Clayton Motor Company robbed us of our $4,000.00 so they could buy the some beer and pocket the rest. Even knowing that we have a 6 year old (5 years old at the time of sale) and a 3 month old (which was 21 days old at the time of sale) that we have to take to the doctor very often and to school on a weekly basis. And also back and forth to work for me and my wife both. But we were informed that the Jeep was going to be greatly reliable and would serve great for our family and be very dependable. Now here they have sold us this "lemon" Jeep (that also has a total of 33 history records according to carfax.com that wasn't mentioned at the car lot, and the motor is shot which is going to cost right at $6,000 dollars to fix) and they knew they sold us a bad "lemon" vehicle. We have also had to replace the transmisson with another one because the transmission failed in the Jeep also, which cost us $1,000 to have replaced. They need to be shut down and they are a local business in Knoxville that needs to be shut down over this so they can’t rip off anymore families that need a great dependable car for them and their children. |
