We arrived at the Clarion Inn in Mason, Ohio on October 30, 2010 around 12:00am. We checked in and went to our room. Our first impression was the room was fairly nice for the money we had paid. I decided I was going to take a shower. I went into the bathroom and the bath mat hanging on the edge of the tub was soaking wet. I picked it up and threw it into the corner of the bathroom. Got into the shower, there were pieces of something (looked like drywall) on the bottom of the tub. Turned on the water and the drain was clogged so I was standing in a tub of water with who knows who's filth. Got out of the shower, the towel rack was hanging off of the wall. Brushed my teeth, guess what, sink was clogged. Got dressed and inspected the room more thoroughly only to find something black (??) on the bed, felt dirt on the floor with my bare feet. Decided I did NOT feel comfortable staying in this hotel...can you say bed bugs?! Went to retrieve the bath mat to show the clerk at the desk, picked it up and it looked like someone had wiped there muddy feet on it. If they can't even give me a clean bath mat, how clean are the towels and sheets? The clerk at the desk offered us another room, I refused, 45 minutes later we checked out and went to stay at a hotel we've stayed at before and have always had a wonderful stay. They are a little pricey but we should have went there to begin with. The next morning, I check our bank account to make sure they didn't charge us for the night. Not only did they charge us for that night, they charged us for three additional nights!!! Our reservation (which I have the confirmation email) was only for one night. We went back to the hotel to find out what happened. The "manager" on duty finally abandons her boyfriend in the office behind the counter and comes to help us. She has no idea what happened and says the GM will call me first thing Monday morning. Maybe it was her jeans and hoodie or her pink hair but I was not very reassured. I wait until noon the following Monday and no call from the GM so I call her. She really has no idea as to what happened and then begins interrupting me every time I try to speak. I get frustrated because she will not let me talk so I raise my voice to talk over her. Then she literally begins to yell at me. Long story short, almost an entire week later, my banker has to call this woman and threaten her and she FINALLY releases the charges. This is after I'm out of pocket fifty bucks from overdraft fees. My beef is that this caused a HUGE problem and they acted like it was no big deal. I would have thought they would offer me a discount or free night (not that I would take it, the hotel was disgusting) but it's the thought that counts. And of course calling their corporate office was no help either, they couldn't have cared less. I will never stay in another Choice Hotel again and I will tell anyone who will listen to me how horrible that hotel chain is. |
