CitiMortgage SCAM! Repeatedly placing expensive forced insurance on non-escrow accounts (falsely claiming no proof of insurance was provided) Springf
16th of Sep, 2011 by User314153
I've always paid our mortgage (principal and interest only) by the 1st of the month. However, each August CitiMortgage writes us to tell me that they did not receive proof of flood insurance from our insurance carrier. I pull my file, find my July flood ins declarations page, see that a copy was sent to CitiMorgage, but fax a copy to CitiMortgage anyway to the fax number provided on the letter. In 2010, weeks after sending in my proof of flood insurance, I got an uglier letter from Citi saying that they did not receive proof of flood insurance (the declarations page I faxed to them), and they will be creating an escrow account and forcing a flood policy on me (at four times the current market price of a like policy), which will increase our mortgage payment significantly. I call the phone number on the letter and the Citi employee tells me "nothing was received". Again, I fax my proof of flood insurance. And, again, WITHOUT FAIL, a few days later, I receive a notice indicating my new (increased) mortgage payment for principal, interest and insurance! I fax the proof again, but to no avail. Refusing to pay for insurance I already have, I continue to pay the old payment amount. Citi receives the payment, but does not apply the funds toward our mortgage account (instead placing the funds in a "suspense account"). After two or three months of my sending proof of insurance and paying my old payment amount on time, late fees accrue and my loan is thrown into default status. Now, the collections calls from India begin! India called me 3-4 times daily beginning at 8 am and ending at 9:30 pm to collect payments already made. In 2011, Citi sent me a certified letter notifying me of pending foreclosure proceedures. Finally, in June 2011, after some yelling, crying, getting the BBB involved and threatening lawsuits, I eventually got a "resolution manager" on the phone who untangled the matter (reversed the late fees, restored the old payment amount, applied all of the mortgage payments, etc.). Well, guess what, folks? August 2011 rolled around and I received another "no proof of flood insurance" letter! I've faxed CitiMortgage proof of flood insurance twice already, but today, I recieved a letter telling me they are placing forced flood insurance on me again. This is a nightmare that doesn't seem to end! Any attorneys out there willing to take these clowns on?
