Beware of Charter Cable and their lies!
I was a Verizon FiosCustomer prior toDec 5, 2010. A saleswoman representing Charter Cable came to my house and communicated that they understood that I was a previous Charter customer and that I left them in Jan 2009. I said that was correct. They asked if I was happy with Verizon and I said yes except with the cost of the service and I was considering going back to Charter if the price was substantially better. I was paying $207 a month for Verizon. The saleswoman indicated that they have some good promotions going on and we discussed what I needed and she ran some numbers. She said that the bundle package would be 109.97 a month plus the equipment and taxes. The equipment has been a big contributor for me as I need 5 boxes and had 3 of the 5 as HD DVRs and the remaining two would need to be standard DVRs. She ran up some numbers for all the boxes that I would need and came to a maximum amountof an additional$65 dollars per month. I actually have her service request form indicating a preliminary monthly fee of $109.97+ $65.
So worse case for me was $175 per month plus taxes. That wassomething I would consider but it wasn't quite the saving I was hoping for. She did say she could discuss an additionaldiscount of the cable boxes withher supervisor the next day and would get back to me. She did call me the next day and said she has the new price at a littleover $150 per month plus taxes. I said heck yes! I was going back to Charter and dropping Fios.
I canceled Fios, Charter installed all their equipment and hooked me up two days later. I received my first months billabout10-12 days laterand it was $291 dollars minus $90 that I paid up front for the equipment. I was shocked that they wanted $291 dollars for the first months bill. I called them up and talked the their billing folks. They said that because of the boxes that I have, it is correct andI should expect my monthly bill to be $240 per month going forward. This is $33 dollars more than Fios per month!!! They said that there is no way they would provide me the 5 DVR boxes for the rate given by the saleswoman.
I told them that their sales folks are not being honest and giving bad numbers to entice people to switch services. The saleswoman that set this up was nicely available for phone calls prior to the service being hooked up, now after installation, their phone doesn'treceive calls at the subscribers request. Huh?
I told Charter that I am canceling their service because they are dishonest with the pricing and I am NOT going to pay their early termination fee. I have since called Verizon back to reimplement their system. The good news is withVerizon's new bundle packages, as a returning customer, I will be saving a lot of money per month. Better than what Charter hadfalsly promised.
