Carter county dodge unethical sales procedures, dishonesty, extorsion ardmore, Oklahoma
21st of Apr, 2011 by User550764
I drove from Fort Worth to Ardmore to look at a used vehicle I had seen online and had been communicating with Jeremy the internet sales manager. I was told i had been approved to get the vehicle for my trade-in @265 per month for 5 years. I was guaranteed of this which is why i drove 2 hours to buy it.
When arriving I was shown the used vehicle and then asked if I was interested in looking at new vehicles. I said if the payment would be close to the same monthly i would look. We then looked at several new trucks, which Jeremy assured me would qualify for 6500 of rebates. When we went to actually negotiate price, the sales manager came back with only 3000 in rebates. I told them we were guaranteed 6500 in rebates and he said that we did not qualify for most of them.
When we saw the new trucks were going to be out of our price range, we asked to then go back to the original used truck we came to view. At this point we were told they could not do the original as was guaranteed to us.
This was the first point which we tried to leave, but could not because the dealership had our keys. They asked if we would stay until they could find a new truck which would fit our budget. We reluctantly agreed. A stripped down model was pulled out and we test drove it. They then came and presented us with numbers we still did not like. It was at this time we tried to leave again, but could not because they would not bring us our keys.
When they brought the final offer, we told them we would like to go home and think about it. They asked us to meet with the finance manager to see if the interest rate could get better. We had been on the lot for almost 5 hours at this point. We finally reluctantly agreed to sign for the truck, but as soon as we left we felt terrible about the deal. We could not come back because the dealership was locked up as we were leaving (it was well past 10pm).
The next morning, less than 10 hours later, we called and told them we would like to return the truck and receive our trade in back. We spent all day on the phone. I was never allowed to speak with the owner after several attempts to discuss the unethical tactics and pressure his employees had used. Tom Johnson, the general manager, finally agreed to break the contract if we would pay him 1,000 cash. While i protested, i felt it was the only thing i could do.
Furthermore, when i finally did receive my trade in back, my truck had been stickered as a 2003. My truck is a 2001, the title clearly says this, as well as all of my trade in papers (which i have copies of). This to me is another example of the dealership's dishonesty.
