I have never felt compelled to post anything before like this, but I really am that upset so here goes.
I wanted to start off by saying that I have over the past years purchased six cars from carmax, three of them new. I had decided that since my oldest car was approaching 90k that I would trade it and so I went to carmax. Now I am a snowbird and this car has only been driven less than 9k miles a year and is in absolutely pristine condition and has always been meticulously maintained. There is not a scratch on it not a mar or scuff on the interior and every feature works perfectly. I went on KBB and NADA and got an idea of how much my car was worth. So you can imagine my surprise (shock?) when I was presented with an "offer"of less than HALF that! Now the car I wanted was over 1k the absolute top price of both of these sites, so what gives? I was insulted by this "offer". I cannot believe that carmax would treat anyone this way, but moreover a long term repeat customer. I went to the local Mercedes dealer and asked them what they would value the car at and the owner came over to me and said that he would give me a check on the spot for my car for well over twice the amount carmax had offered and then went on to tell me that the particular model I had was a highly sought after one equipped the way it was. It seems that very few of this model had been so equipped. I am now extremely delighted that carmax insulted me and I am keeping this car and just garaging it and purchased another to drive to keep the miles down on it. I just wonder two things. One was the guy who "appraised" my car that incompetent and if so why is he working in this position or two, were they trying to rob a senior citizen by unscrupulous, deceitful and underhanded business practice? I am supposing that both are in play. So I wanted to warn everyone, especially Senior Citizens that carmax is NOT a place that they want to give their business to. Seniors and ALL do not place any confidence, trust or business in carmax a most deceitful business.
