Back in 2008 I had signed up at At The Beach Tanning Salon for a one year contract. The military was moving us and I had to jump through hoops to get my contract canceled. It was such a huge pain and not what i needed right before our move. A few months I had decided to start tanning and went to a nice little place in Yukon. My one month ran out so I decided I wanted to do one more month but when I drove by there they were closed. I had surgery a few weeks before, feeling bla not being able to go to the pool or lake and I wanted to tan that day and get it started. So I drove back to Mustang, where I live and stopped at At The Beach. I didn't use them in the first place because of what they did to me in 2008, but not using better judgement I decided to go ahead and ask if they had one month contracts/memberships. I was told yes. She gave me prices for different beds and told her I wanted the cheapest bed with only one month. We were chatting a bit and I explained to her why I only wanted one month.... which was because I just needed a good base tan since it was June and summer was coming up. She smiled, agreed and talked more to me about other things. So she gets the process started, I pay for it and she tells me I needed to come back in 10 days prior to the month being up and quote "that will be around the first of July" I told her okay, and left. So today is June 30th, I am going to be out of town on July 1 so I went in the store today to cancel and I was told by a young man that I can't cancel because I had the 2 month contract. I explained to him there must be some mistake because I only wanted one month and went into detail, like I did above. He told me he couldn't do anything and to grab a brochure and call the number on the back. he also told me that if I had spent another 10.00 I would have had the one month membership.. I told him that is what I told her I wanted but obviously she made a mistake or flat lied to me. So I called the number on the back of the brochure I was told by them that they don't even offer one month memberships, 2 months is less I can buy. I explained to them what the girl told me when I got the membership and what the guy told me today about being able to get only one month. She argued with me for a while that she could not help me or give my money back becasue they don't offer one months memberships and it was my fault for not doing my homework. WHAT????? I told her that I thought that was a cop out answer and that its a pretty sneaky and dishonest way to get people into a longer contract by offering it at local stores and then being told they don't offer it by the "big guys" so they don't have to give you your money back. I argued with them for a while and realized they weren't going to budge. So I called the local store and told them I wanted to talk to a manager, which was the guy who had told me to call the number on the brochure. When I told him what they told me (they don't offer one month) he told me that.... quote... "they don't know we do down here, they don't know that we offer one month contracts, we make our own contracts at local stores" again WHAT???? I told him I wanted something done and that I was not going to pay for another month when I was told I could pay for only one and was told that was what I was signing up for. He basically told me the only people who could refund my money were the people I called "on the back of the brochure." I am just sick over this. It was NOT my fault when an employee totally screwed up what i wanted... it is not my fault they offered me a one month membership when the main office had no idea they were offering it. But to make a very aggravating story short.. I am stuck with paying another 50.00!!! Will not EVER EVER EVER go back to that place and I told both the local and office that I was going to spread the word about how they are screwing me over!!! Go elsewhere people, don't let them lie to you, they are dishonest, they don't care about us... all they care about it getting someone stuck in a contract and you dang near have to be dead to get out of it... and it would not surprise me if they tried to make a family member pay for it if you did pass. They are rude, hateful and could careless about their customers. I have heard numerous stories from friends since this happened and now I am seeing more on the websites. We need to shut them down from lack of business for doing so many, so wrong!!! |
