ARMSTRONG
ARMSTRONG DOES NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR DEFECTIVE PRODUCT lancaster, Pennsylvania
12th of Mar, 2011 by User812748
I chose an Armstrong engineered wood floor and advised the store owner that I had radiant heat. Prior to placing the order, the store owner who had never placed an order for this specific Century Estate Iron Gate wood floor, placed a call and spoke with the regional salesperson from Armstrong, Mr. O'Neill to make sure that the product was compatible with radinat heat with cement overlay. It was only after the store owner was assured by this Armstrong salesperson that the engineered wood met those specifications, that the store owner placed the order. That was the first week of November 2010. Within 5-6 weeks the floor started to crack and the veneer came apart. There were fissures all over the floor. I went back to the store and the owner called the Armstrong salesperson, Mr. O'Neill and placed an incident report. Despite numerous calls it wasn't till mid January that Mr. O'Neill came out to inspect the floor. It took several more weeks of phone calls till Mr. O'Neill responded that the company was flying out a corporate person to inspect the floor further. In mid February Mr. O'Neill accompanied by another gentleman came to my home and inspected the floor again. Several more weeks of fruitlees phone calls ensued. On Friday, March 11, 2011 the store owner called to read me a letter wherein Armstrong stated that they would not honor any warranty since their reading of the temperature of the floor was 89% and the recommended temperature was no higher than 85%. The room in question is a den not a spa or sauna. We walk barefoot on the floor and if their reading was accurate we would have 3rd degree burns on our feet. We do not keep the thermostat higher than 67%. There are furniture, sofas, and built in in that room; none of which are cracking or damaged. The radiant heat runs throughout the first floor of my home and there are marble blocks and granit; none of which are cracking. It is deeply insulting and obnoxious of Armstrong to come up with such an incredulous excuse for failing to stand behind their obviously defective product. Armstorng is a strong and reputable American company and should stand behind their product. It is clear that this product is not meant for radiant heat, period. if you've had similar experiences with Armstorng products, please let me know.
