I purchased a maytag refrigerator from Appliance 4 Less on 11/23/10. The delivery driver was asked by the manager to load the refrigerator onto my truck. The delivery driver dropped the refrigerator because his dolly wheel was flat. I questioned him about the likelihood of the refrigerator falling. He replied back to me that he has done this a million times. The refrigerator received large scratches on the handle due to the fall. The sales manager Mario Michael suggested that new handle be ordered. The handles were supposed to take 4 business days. 7 days later I had not heard any response from Appliance 4 less. I called but was given the run around for about 3 days. Finally, I drove across town to Appliance 4 Less and spoke directly to Mario about the lack of customer service I had received thus far. I told him that I was worried about buying a used refrigerator from his store because of the lack of service thus far. He assured me that all was well and called to check on the delivery of the handles. Mario informed me that the handles have not arrived but that I should take the refirgerator as is and he would have the handles shipped to me. I asked him to have his repair tech show me how to remove the door handles since I would not be tasked with installing them. The repair tech could not figure out how to appropriately remove the handles and subsequently broke the track that the handles use to brace onto the facade of the refrigerator. I informed the tech first that the track was now broken. He seemed to be upset that I had noticed and tried to convince me that it was not broken and that the extra plastic that was now missing was not really necessary. I scoffed at the notion of accepting a refrigerator with an inherent instability issue caused by a rushing repair tech. Mario tried to convince me that it was not a big deal but the framing was broken to the anchor point which was a metal screw. I have forgotten to mention that at this point I had paid 647.89 for this refrigerator. Mario reluctantly agreed to exchange the maytag for a kenmore. The kenmore model had ice and water on the door but the panel was otherwise inoperable. I accepted this deal because the kenmore was a little nicer than the maytag despite the board not working. It is important to note I accepted the refrigerator because I had seen the ice and water work on the model in the store. On 12/15/10 the refrigerator was set to be delivered by the same guy that dropped the maytag. Upon his arrival he smelled heavily of marijuana but I didnt want to make further issue of anything because of the previous hassle of dealing with Appliance 4 Less service team. He was not able to remove the hinges of the door because he had "forgotten" his ratchet set. I obliged him by removing the door. He plugged in the refrig. but it did not work. No ice, no water, no lights, nothing. I told the delivery driver that I could not accept delivery because it was not working. He informed me that he was not taking it back, that he was not going to refund me the money that I had paid for delivery. I told him that the contract that I had signed said that if the refrigerator had an issue that it had to be brought back to the store because repair techs do not make house calls. It also states that there is a 75.00 dollar deductible for repair plus additional mileage charges. I informed him that because the refrig was obviously not working and that I would be burdened with responsibility for returning the defective product, I could not accept delivery. At this point he he began to raise his voice and I hesitated to react because I had my three young children in the house within eyesight. He smashed my new framed door with his dolly in an obvious attempt to flee the scene. I am now left with a broken refrigerator, a broken door, and 65 dollars less. Human error is inevitable but to have such a serious of mistakes and then the delivery guy shows up high and beligerent and walks away with my money. |
