Misdiagnosing & exceeded costs
7th of Jun, 2013 by hpmracer
We contacted Anytime Heating & Cooling Inc. Suwanee, Ga (anytimehvac.com) in late May 2013 and spoke to Allison (Off. Rep). I informed the rep that I felt it might be the ICB control board, but I did have have anyway to verify that that was the problem with our HVAC unit. She quoted us a $55 service call charge, and I told her okay. This after I read this on their website: "When you need A/C Service, call Anytime. We offer 24/7 emergency service for your heating and cooling system. We are licensed and insured, and perform repair on all major manufacturer’s equipment. Our experienced professionals will perform a complete system evaluation to troubleshoot your system and provide you with solutions that are right for you. Our A/C service technicians will have you back on track in no time" Call Anytime: (770) 504-5881 Allison informed us that she would have one of their techs contact us later that same day. We then received a call from the tech (Andy) who informed us that he was 45 mins away due to traffic. When he arrive, he informed me that he was feeling ill and to pardon him. I showed him the unit, and immediately he surmised that the ICB control board was defective. NO such testing was performed to confirm his theory. I asked if he was sure about that, and his reply was yes! I then thanked him for squeezing us in so late and paid him their service fee of $55. I also informed him that I use to be an appliance repairman in CA and that I could source the ICB on my own from there, as I also had mentioned unto Allison from their office. I knew that they as well as others, would mark up the parts for gross profit, however upon finding the ICB for a mere $150 online, I rec'd it immediately and installed the board. Unfortunately our HVAC had the same problem! I phoned Anytime Heating & AC and expressed our concerns with Allison and she told me that she would have the owner (Jason Bergstrom) call us back. Later that day June 5, 2013, I received his call back. He immediately placed me on hold because he had a customer. Suddenly I wasn't a customer anymore as it seemed. About 15 mins elapsed and the call was dropped. I called back, and Allison answered the phone and informed me that Jason was busy with another customer. He finally called back, and as I explained the situation, he immediately ranted about how the whole system worked and said nothing to accommodate our furnace issue. I informed him about the continuing problem, even after replacing the ICB, as was said to be defective by his tech (Andy). Jason on the other hand informed me that my new ICB was also defective, and that I shouldn't trust outside part providers other than he. Did I mention that he assessed the need for another ICB board from the other end of the telephone? Jason then went on to say that he would call me back with a price and another $55 service charge, and that Andy would be back out to perform the work. The same tech who at this point seemingly misdiagnosed the problem to begin with! Allison called us back later that same day, and quoted us another $435 for parts & labor, plus another $55 service call fee... and even so, they were going off Andy's original assessment. As I expressed my concerns to Allison about the charges, I let her know that I was concerned about paying for something unnecessary, and her reply was that they would fix it regardless if they were wrong after installing their own ICB board. She then was quick to get off the phone and informed me that if we wanted to have it fixed, then that was the price and contact them back for an appointment. Well hello red flags! I then contacted a few other companies, and came across an owner/ operator in Suwanee, GA who pretty much assessed the problem over the phone, as he was well aware the type system and the issues concerning our HVAC. It appears that the fan motor will continuously run 24/7 in order to keep the unit cool, as a safe mode. This person came out this morning as promised, and sure enough he pushed a small breaker button on a "roll switch circuit" and the system went out of default mode and back to running normal again. When in default mode, the unit runs the fan continuously and NO heat or cooling will operate. I paid him his $79 service call fee and shook his hand and thanked him. He also informed me that that roll switch would not most likely pop again, and be in need of replacement, but if so, it would be covered for the cost of the part only! Wow, a $5 part was the problem, instead of a $150 ICB, that Anytime HVAC was proposing to charge us another $490... and even still that wouldn't have solved the problem! I then contacted Jason, and he gave me the run around, to which he fed me a line of bull! Everything from you did it yourself to you should have let us finish the job and your shouldn't buy parts from anyone other than he. Jason was unable to admit their mistake and had NO remorse by costing us $230 in wasteful unneeded expense. In addition to reporting my experience unto this website, I will definitely be contacting the State Licensing Board of Georgia to log our complaint for their malpractice. In all fairness, I contacted the nice gentleman how actually knew what he was doing and fixed the problem... I ask him if the ICB had anything to do with popping the roll circuit switch, and he responded NO. In other words, my original board had nothing to do with the problem, and is still in working condition! I'm originally from CA and I've seen and heard it all. Furthermore I tried of swift coning thieves and fed up with their lies. Ultimately I don't play the B.S.! I take serious action, and you should too! Enough is enough, and you could be the next victim of someone's prey. Regards, Jim B.

Anytime HVAC needs to go back to school and/ or train their technicians better. Their mishaps and misdiagnosis will cost you dearly, and you won't even know it!
