Sometime in 2009, I attempted to buy a dental insurance discount program for my son so that he could get dental care. I found "TrueCare Health Discount" program, aka, "American Health Advantage" on the internet, and it seemed reasonable. They had a Better Business Bureau seal on their page. I gave them my bank info (big mistake), and they proceeded to take $13.95 out of my account monthly for 4 years. They said that they would send a membership card, but never did. They said that they would send me a list of providers, but never did. I did download a list of providers, contacted a few, who said that they did not in fact take "TrueCare Health discount", nor "American Health Advantage" as a discount, and in fact had never heard of this program. I attempted an internet search to find American Health advantage to cancel my "subscription". I found the website, but when I contacted member services, they said that I was not a member, and neither was my son. Meanwhile, the withdrawals kept leaking out of my bank account for over 3 years. I had no results from calling the 1-800-747-6190 number. My bank also was unable to stop the charges coming out of my account, since there was no physical address or verifiable contact associated with the withdrawal. In fact, I had been scammed, and scammed good. So, in order to stop the withdrawals, I finally closed the bank account and opened a new one. Pretty drastic, but my bank had heard of these people before, and apparently other people had had to resort to this same drastic remedy to get rid of the theft. At that point, "Stephanie" from Aetna Dental Discount called my son on his cell phone to complain that the withdrawals had stopped, and that I was "behind in my payments". I called the main number, waited on the line for 10 minutes to speak with someone other than sales or member benefits, hung up, called sales, asked for a physical address to mail my "overdue payment" to. She said, " We don't accept check payments." I asked for the company owner or CEO's name, and she wouldn't give me that, either. I explained the problem that I had been having with the bank withdrawals, and her reaction was that it was basically my fault, that me being able to talk with her meant that I had in fact been able to resolve the problem of paying for nonexistent American Health Advantage services for years. I told her that she worked for a very dishonest company. She hung up. Later, I checked on the Better Business Bureau seal, and found out that American Health Advantage, aka TrueCare Advantage, in fact has an "F" from the local Better Business Bureau in Florida, due to the large number of unresolved complaints against them. That link is here: http://www.bbb.org/central-florida/business-reviews/medical-dental-discount-plans/american-health-advantage-in-lake-mary-fl-114635833 There is also another business address listed in Florida for the company: American Health Advantage, LLC 1025 Greenwood Boulevard #121, Lake Mary, FL 32746 (800) 747-6190 So if anyone actually wants to sue these people for damages (claiming to provide services, charging payment for services never delivered), I'm in. |
