I contacted "All American Van Lines," however, "Michael" from "All American Van Line" contacted me. I did not know at the time that I was dealing with a different moving company. He took my inventory via telephone and if I agreed with a contract at that moment, he would give me a quote of a $500 flat fee from Jersey City, NJ to Stonington, CT. I agreed. He sent me the estimate via email that noted everything that we agreed upon, all packaging materials, mileage and gas. My move date and time was 12/30/2010 between 9am and 10am. They did not show up. Nobody was at the office until 11:45am when I finally got a hold of a receptionist who said that the movers did not show up to work today and cannot do the move. The move was rescheduled 12/31/2010 at 12pm, which is when I can reserve the elevator in my buidling. They showed up on time the following day, took inventory, packed and loaded the truck."Sal" the mover came back with another estimate of $1,638.00. He claimed that the estimate "Michael" gave me underestimated the 'Cubic Feet' measurement. I did not understand as all my inventory and list of items were on the estimate. He threatened to unload all my things off the truck onto the sidewalk if I did not pay. My boyfriend negotiated down to $1,300 plus tip. "Sal" also said that "All American Van Line" is now out of business and changed the name to "All United Van Lines" under new management and "Michael" no loner worked there and whatever estimate he gave me did not count. "Sal" only went by 'Cubic Feet'. I did some research and found that this company used be called "Sunshine Van Lines" then "All United Van Lines" and now, still "All American Van Line." There is a good, reputable company called the "All American Van Lines" with an "S" in the end. This awful moving company may be in violation of trademark law by using such a similar name and and also using the Bait and Switch scheme to scam customers like me. |
