Alamo Car Rental Billing for

Rented a car from Alamo in Flint Mi during June 2011. After turning in car but before arriving home, Alamo had called saying they found damage to the right door. Since I live in a different state it was impossible to verify this. I provided all necessary information to the rental location including the fact that I had rental coverage. What I didn't know was they went ahead and billed my credit card for the supposed damage amount.
I contacted my insurance carrier to obtain claim numbers which I provided to their Damage Recovery Unit. A week later I received a bill from the DRU for $487.00. I called their customer service number but they were absolutely of no help. I was fnally able to speak with an adjuster, Jeffery A., who told me the claim had been closed.
After many more phone calls I was finaly able to get the claim submitted to my insurance company. On Aug. 16 I did receive a refund (less their admin and loss of use fees) but at least I did get something.
I think someone needs to take a serious look at this company and their business practices. I see that I am not the first to experience how this company operates. The rental location did not tell me I needed to do a "self check" of the car when I rented it. They essentially were trying to collect the supposed " damages" twice from me. The rental locations apparently don't communicate with the DRU very well. The confusion between the DRU customer service agents and the adjusters is enormous.
