ADT Security Services ADT Dishonest & Bad Business Practices Boca Raton, Florida |

Here is my story. We bought a new house 4 years ago and had a Brinks Alarm installed (now ADT). In order to get their installation deal we had to sign a 3 year monitoring contract paying $30/month. We were under the impression that once our agreement was fulfilled we could cancel monitoring. 4 years later we got rid of our land line and replaced it with a VoIP line to save money and canceled our monitoring. A couple weeks later our alarm started chiming at 6:21am and flashing CH TROUBLE. I now find out (through web searching and calling) that the alarm will do this every morning at 6:21am unless I "power down" the system (meaning it doesn't work at all anymore) or I reinstate monitoring which has gone up to $35/month. As I consumer I am livid and frustrated that I was tricked by this company since the alarm I paid for will no longer work. This information was NOT shared with me when we signed up and had I known this I NEVER would have had Brinks install this alarm. We always figured we would cancel monitoring after the three years, so why would we have signed up knowing that the alarm would no longer function after the three years??? Moving into a new house we thought that by doing a contract with monthly payments, it would help us spread out some our new found costs as homeowners, rather than paying for the system up front. We were duped by Brinks/ADT and it is time they pay for their actions for not being honest with consumers. We need officials who will take action against companies that defraud the public and take advantage of people! Their behavior is unacceptable. P.S. I have all of my original paperwork, contracts, etc. In some fine print on one of the 6 pages it says something about the company owning the alarm, but it never states or makes clear that the alarm only works with paid ADT monitoring. Which I also think is bad business since they make you responsible for all repairs and maintenance, but they still own it (and can apparently shut if off at any time). That's a bunch of BS if I ever heard it. Shady shady company. Do NOT do business with ADT. |
