I had quite painful experience with 1-800-pack-rat Moving and Storage located in Chatilly, VA. I was about to relocate to another place in Rockville, MD, which was only 0.5 miles away, but I had to move out 2 weeks before I could move in. So, I ordered 1-800-Pack-Rat service to move and store my stuff for 2 weeks, while my family traveled out of state. It started rather nicely, I ordered the container on June 6th, 2011, and it was delivered on time on June 8th. I packed and loaded my things, and the container was picked up on June 14. The re-delivery was scheduled for July 2nd. Then the things went much worse. A day before the guy from the warehouse called me and said that they were unable to deliver the container on time because the fork lift at their warehouse was broken, and they were waiting for a replacement part to arrive. He also promised not to charge ~$270 for the rollover to 2nd month. Next week my family came back, and no sign of 1-800-Pack-Rat yet. I had to set up some temporary bedding, and on the next day I called them, and they said the delivery was re-scheduled on Thursday, Jul 7. When I called them on Jul 7th, they said the re-delivery was re-scheduled again, this time for Mon July 11. I tried to argue with them, but they said they could not do anything and told me to contact the warehouse directly at 703-817-1302. I called and the guy said they were still waiting for the faulty part. Finally the container was delivered on Sat 9th. And I was still charged for 2 months rather than 1, as if it was my fault. Currently I am trying to dispute the charges they made to my credit card, but I have little hope to succeed. The only 100% "satisfaction" they can guarantee is to charge your credit card on a regular basis without you even know it. As soon as you tell them your credit card number, they keep it on file and charge periodically. They don't send any receipts or anything, so you don't even know what are you being charged for. Their whole billing and quoting system is extremely misleading. If you want to live dangerously, you can go for 1-800-pack-rat, but don't forget to block your credit card before they charge unexpected extras. Remember, you will never know what's going on behind the scenes, they will never bother to call you if they re-schedule the delivery or charge your credit card. |
