My business was contact by USBR On Line sometime in October 2010 and spoke to my director, claiming thatmy directorsigned up for their marketing services sometime in September 2010and that we owe them $499.
When she asked them who they are and what this is regarding, they would not give her a straight answer, so she told them to mail her an invoice before she would agree to pay anything since she never remembers agreeing to or signing up for any service that costs $499 since she is not even authorized to do so. We never received anything in the mail from them.
Then they called a second time, and once again my director answered and again tried to find out more information from them, but again could not get a straight answer. The lady over the phonehad a strong Nigerian sounding accent. This time my director gaveher our email address and askedher to email an invoice. This time we were emailed an invoice from them which gave us more proof that this company is a scam. The invoice had no real information about what they were charging us for and for how long the service had been active. Also the funny thing is both the username and password were our business phone number, which most services make the username and password different and not so obvious.
When we went to investigate who is the owner of the company and website, we saw they were registered by Domains by Proxy, Inc. at DomainsByProxy.com, so they did not even have a name associated with their company or a real contact person. When we called the phone number to talk to someone about these charges and services, a nigerian sounding woman answered the phone and claimed that our director agreed to their service over the phone.
They proceeded to speak to me without verifying that I am authorized to speak to them about this account. When I told her that the director was not authorized to sign up with them and that we want her to immediately terminate service, she said she could not terminate the service once it is set up and that we still owe the $499 fee.
She claimed their service was basically to list our Name, address, and phone number on their no-name website for a year for $499. This service is not even worth $1.00, and they could have gotten this information from anywhere and claimed that we enrolled with them.
Anyways, when we asked to hear their proof that our director agreed on the phone to their services on a recording they had taken, she told us to hold so she could pull up the recording, and then came back and said the service is busy and could we give her a number to call us back when she is able to pull it up. When we told her we would call her back instead and how long should we wait to call back, she just got angry and hung up the phone on me.When we tried to call back their number it went directly to voice mail. Soundspretty fishy to me.
