This was an intrastaTe move from Virginia Beach VA to King George VA. When I scheduled the appointment I was told that the movers would charge $100 per hour for three men and 1 truck. I was never given any written or oral estimated quote for the total cost of the move. This was our first move so I wasn't even aware at the time that it was my right to get one. I thought they just quoted you a price per hour and that was it. I was also made to give a $100 security deposit, which was suppose to be soley used to secure my move and to be reimbursed after the move was over. The contract states only to cover and wrap couches, matresses, and glass. We bought the covers for everything and also had everything boxed and shrink wrapped. We were set to move on 03/01/2011 at 8AM. The moving company arrived at 8:11. When the movers began to load out belongings they started to wrap and pack things. My husband immediately asked them what they were doing and told them to stop. The response he received was "It's Policy". He tried a second attempt to get them to stop and he received the same response. It took them about 2 hours to load everything and an addtional 45mins to an hour for them to re-wrap everything that we already had. When they arrived at my new home in King George, VA (a 2 hour drive from my preivous residence) we were told to pay before they would unload our belongings. The gentlemen tried to force my husband to sign the credit card debit paperwork without telling him a price. My husband refused to sign without know what this was costing him. After arguing with him for 10mins he finally started to write things down and gave us the amouth of $2591.00. My husband told the gentleman to get his boss on the phone immediately because that price was outrageous. When my husband spoke with the boss, Joseph, he was very rude and disrespectful to my husband. Joseph laughed, told my husband to have a blessed day, and then hung up on him. In the mean time we were still being charged fror the 45mins that was spent on the phone trying to figure out what was going on and why the amount was so outrageous. Joseph then told the driver to give us a $200 military/governtment discount since we are both employeed by the DOD Civil Service. This should have brought the total to $2391, however, according to the invoice I have the total was $2491. They then deducted the $100 security deposit from the amount owed (they still kept the $100 to put towards the final amount) and that brought the total to $2391. We were charged for 10 hours of work and after 8 hours they carge $50 extra dollars as overtime, plus an initial $100. So, we were charges $300 in overtime fees. Then we were charged $762 for packing supplies that we not needed, this also included a charge for using their moving blankets. We were then charged $600 for travel time and $229 for fuel. We had no choice but to pay the $2391 or they would not unload our belongings. It was like our things were being held hostage until we paid them even if the amount was not agreed on. We just wanted our things unloaded and them to leave. Once they were done unloading, they started to take packign material off tings and trying to reassemble them. We told them to just leave and we would take care of it ourselves. They left our new home around 2:30pm. We were charged a full 8 hours plus 2 hours of overtime and they were only with us for 6 an 1/2 hours. I emailed the company on 03/02/2011 around 10am. I didn't receive any response from my email. I then went to the BBB website and filed a complaint. I then began searching online for other things that I could do. I realized that my rights had been violated and that I had been taken advantage of and a victim of a scam. I then emailed the company again and informed them that I had in fact filed a complaint and was going to seek legal council. This was not done as a threat it was done as a courtesy to let them know what I was going to do, a courtesy that was not given to me by them. All of a sudden I received a call from Joseph. He didn't even listen to me. He offered to give me $300 off and I told him "NO". That wasn't even close to what I was asking of him. I told him that I believed that I should be refunded for the overtime, due to the fact that I was never told they were located in Maryland. I also requested that I be reimbursed for the $762 for the packing supplies that we didn't want or need. They wasted time re-packing and re-wrapping things that we already done. He basically laughed at me and said that is not going to happen. He said he would email me a dispute claims form and that it would take up to 45 days to get any response much less any reimbursement but he would give me the $300 credit and we could be done. I stood firm and stated "NO" again. I have still yet to see any email with any form. I didn't even get an apolgy for the way my husband and I were treated. This is why people just move themselves. These moving companies take advatage of good people. What if we didn't have the mopney to pay? I am guessing they would have made payment arragements and charged interest for that as well. I hope that this will shed some light on the moving "nightmares" that are happening to people all over the USA. I also saw on the webiste that they have a company in Virginia (Hampton Roads Area which is where we were moving from). I ask why didn't they use that warehouse location? The answer is this: it would have been cheaper for me! The website says they will ease your emotional demands and service with a smile! What a load of bull! They make you stressed and cause you emotional distress! Service with a smile is because they smile all the way to the BANK when they RIP YOU OFF!!!! |
