A Long Beach man was arrested in Island Park Thursday after he was allegedly spotted trying to sell gas hoses and a sign from a gas station he no longer owned.
According to police, at 2:40 p.m., officers responded to a disturbance at U.S. Petroleum on Long Beach Road. Police said Mahmut Unver, 41, was selling gas hoses and a sign from the station he no longer owned. He was arrested without incident.
After an investigation, cops said that in June of 2013, Unver used the alias Michael Berger to acquire a line of credit from a Tuxedo, NY-based oil company for gasoline deliveries. Deliveries were made from June to October of 2013, and Unver allegedly never paid more than $90,000 he owed for the deliveries.
Unver's charged with second- and third-degree grand larceny and will be arraigned Friday at First District Court in Hempstead.
