Universal Mechanical Heating
Universal Mechanical Heating and Air Conditioning Jack Lyons Inferior Work and Doesn't Honor Warranties Palm Desert, California
5th of Aug, 2011 by User740619
The owner Jack Lyon of Univeral Mechanical is very personable and friendly. I had him install a new Carrier air conditioning unit and coil for around $2500.00. I received a 5 year parts and labor warranty for the installation. However, within less than a year, Jack, Lyon, the owner moved the company which was called Texa Air (located in Dallas Fort Worth Area) at the time to a new location in Palm Desert, California. The new company is called Universal Mechanical Air Conditioning and is located in Palm Desert. I was told by the owner that he would be hiring someone in the Dallas area to service his accounts. Unfortunately that did not happen. Recently the compressor in the air conditioner and coil that Texa Air installed stopped working. I am told this is highly unusual. When I called the owner he told me to call the manufacturer and hire someone else to service and repair the unit. He told me that the labor warranty was only for one year (this was before I looked at the actually receipt). When I called to tell him that the receipt said the labor warranty was for 5 years, I was told that he filed bankruptcy under Texas Air and therefore he is not obligilated to repair the unit. I notice on his new advertsment on Angies List that he is licensed, bonded, and insuranced. Also that he said that if the customer is not happy, neither is he. Well I am an unhappy customer that is not getting any satisfication. Also it says we do whatever it takes. Im not sure why this doesn't apply to previous customers as well. It was a financial hardship for me to pay for the original AC but to have to pay for new repairs that should be under warranty is unethical. They should honor their agreements. I would be leery of a company that would do this to existing customers. They really don't stand by their word. I would like to sue in small claims court but not sure if I can file in my hometown since work was done in Texas.
