United Services Life Insurance Company Member of USLICO Corporation Sweepstakes Drawing Scam Letter Bellevue, Washington |
5th of Oct, 2011 by User162081 |
Yesterday I received an official looking letter, accompanied by a check in the amount of $3742.11 from United Services Life Insurance Company. The letterhead was allegedly from Readers Digest. The letter informed me that I had won a sweepstakes drawing in the amount of $500,000.00, and the check included, looked legitimate to ordinary person, was to cover any "charges that are required to receive your funds." Letter was mailed from Bellevue, WA (postmarked in Seattle, WA on October 1, 2011) and was apparently signed ny Mr. John Cain from Prize Disbursement. The "agency point of contact" was listed as Mr. Milton Parker who could be reached at 1-866-599-9987. The "sweepstakes" drawing was allegedly conducted on August 22, 2011 and it further stated that as a finalist my ticket (never bought one!) drew lucky numbers 78-43-89-19-35. I checked this site and another scam web site and discovered what I thought all along. This is a scam. Do NOT call the telephone number and do NOT deposit the check -- it's fraudulent and you'll be on the hook. The Reader's Digest address utilized in the letter was 452 Broadway, New York, NY 10037-2419. In my opinion, this is another case of U.S. mail fraud, and federal authorities should be carting these folks off to jail. Be forewarned and thus forearmed. |
