I'm still trying to make sense of what just happened to me. I was making a call to Time Warner and was on hold for what seemed forever and this fella came on the line and offered me a free trial to some consumer services I wasn't even interested in. I was annoyed with and I just kept telling him to please just pass me through that I had been waiting for over 30 minutes. He kept on insisting that he would as soon as he got my credit card information and assured me that I could call and cancel at anytime within 30 days. I asked for the 800 number to call he gave it to me and then we were disconnected. I was upset at myself for what I had just allowed to happen and thought I’ll take care of it later, so I dismissed it. So I called back the cable company and started all over again. I was having trouble with my interception because of the storms in the area. So the next day I called to cancel that trial offer with the telephone number the fella had given me. The next month I saw the statement again on my bill and called SMS back to tell them it was still on my bill and had them cancel it. I had a confirmation number and everything. I failed to check the next month’s statement for the charges, thinking everything was fine. This happened in June, and so it is now December and just happened to notice a charge of $39.95 on my account and knew there shouldn't be anything on there for that amount. Then I back tracked to see if it was a reoccurring charge and found that it was, so I immediately called my bank to see where it originally came from. Well come to find out it started in June under a different company name “SMS†now called “Shop club “ but was for the same amount and same telephone number. So I filed a dispute with my bank. They told me they can only credit me for 2 months. So that company stole $240 from me. I only work part-time and I recently had to move to a cheaper place closer to work because my hours have been cut. I have been careful in watching my spending and now come to find out I have been taken advantage of by a telemarketer has really hit home hard. This seems to be a common occurrence through the email, internet and the telephone these days. I want to report this because I am sure I am not alone and wanted to let others know about this fraudulent company.
