I contacted this company as well as several other companies for a moving estimate, after receiving a number of estimates I decided to use another company at first but this company used sneaky sales tactics telling me bad things about the company that I reserved with. So I decided to cancel with that company and go with them but the move went horrible...First the truck was 3 hours late because of bad traffic so I sat there and waited without even the courtesy of a phone call until I called them. The estimate I was given was for $450 including "everything" but when the crew showed up, the foreman tried to get me to sign blank pieces of paper and I told him to fill it in first so he did and the new (binding) estimate was $3000. I said how come it went up so much? He said there were additional items and charged per item and he said everything had to be repacked and he also said the bed was too big (queen size) and added $250 handling fee for that. Since I didn't have much of a choice because I had to move that day, I signed the paperwork and let them move me anyways. After the move was completed, the foreman had the nerve to ask for a $250 tip...when I refused, he gave me a dirty look like he wanted to hit me that made me scared but he and the crew stomped out of there and back into the truck I guess to their next move for the day. I started putting everything back in its place and found several items that were damaged, wood chairs with legs broken off, mirrors broken, the mattress to the bed that I paid a special handling fee for was ripped so I have to get a new one now. I called to try and get some compensation for the damages that occured and the person that answered the phone said to call the claims department and hung up in my face. I am in the process of contacting my attorney for a lawsuit against this company not only for unethical sales practices tricking me into using them but not being willing to even acknowledge a claim from me for over $1000 in damages I have from the move. I will never use or recommend this company in the future again. |

Was this an Interstate move? You are not that specific. If it was make sure that your lawyer is familiar with the Carmack Amendment. Also you should file a complaint with the FMCSA at http://www.protectyourmove.gov
If it was a local or In State move you should file a complaint with the AG's offce and the Board of Corporations. For a local move you can also file a police report for fraud for the damage.
You should always go with a reputable company. You can check the superlist at http://www.movingscam.com and see what is said about a lot of the companies.
As you found out, price is not everything. The grief, damage, stress and pure unprofessional attitudes are not worht the cheap price. Never have I heard of specail charge for a queen bed. |
