Let me start by saying to anyone that has a teenager with a checking account, beware!! My daughter has had her own bank account for a while, she originally did not order checks because she was given a debit card and she didn't feel she would need any. So, when the time came for her to pick up some food for school. She wrote a check at a local grocery store. The company denied her and then gave her a number to call. We called the number, because she has no check writing history, so we couldn't understand why they were denying her. They stated to me that it was because she had no HISTORY with their company. The rep then told me that they had updated her information and she would be fine. So, again she went out and tried to write a check and again it was denied, saying that it wasn't within the parameters. I then called back again and asked the rep (a different one), what exactly were their parameters and they stated that each check was evaluated on an individual basis and she should try to write a check for $10.00 here and there to get established. First of all in this day and age, can you really get a lot for $10.00 and secondly, she doesn't want to run around town writing $10.00 checks. I was again told by the rep that each check would be evaluated on an individual basis. My problem with this is if they are not going to approve any checks, how is she going to get established, and I brought this up to the rep who told me that it would either be accepted or declined and once she is declined at a merchant she can't try again for 7-10 days. This makes absolutely no sense to me at all. How are young people supposed to establish anything if they are going to get denied. Also, this company is used by many merchants around the country and if this is the issue all the time, maybe these merchants need to select another company that is not going to give a good upstanding citizen a hard time. I could see it if the person had a history of writing bad checks, but to deny a check from someone that hasn't even begun is absolutely ridiculous. I forgot to add that without my daughters permission they contacted her banking institution and tried to get information from her account. Absolutely unacceptable.
