This is a warning to any business owner doing business with Mr. Timothy Radford of Princeton NC to beware, he will stick you if he can!
On Oct 14, 2008 Mr. Radford called my shop inquiring on a price to get his race car chassis stripped of the old powder coat then powder coated gloss red.He described the chassis as being a little bigger than a midget sprint car frame to give me an idea of size. I gave him a price of $675 based on his description but when he showed up on Oct 28th I immediately noticed the chassis was much bigger than he described, however I stuck with my price.
A few days later Mr. Radford called to say there was a rules change that required him to add new support tubing. I told him we had 20 hours into stripping and blasting the frame and were just about finished. I let him know if he picked it up for welding it would need to be blasted again to remove any surface rust and surface contaminants from the welding process. He said he didn't have a choice and he would just let the car owner know it would cost a little more than expected. He told me he would pick up the chassis in a couple days after coordinating with the welder.
The chassis sat in my shop for 17 days waiting for Mr. Radford to pick it up but he didn't show or answer my phone messages. On Nov 18th he called to say the welding was not needed after all and I could go ahead with the job. Since the tubing had slightly surface rusted we re-blasted the whole chassis and proceeded with the powder coating process, only adding $150 for the second blasting.
On Nov 21st I called Mr. Radford and told him the chassis was finished and the total was $825. He immediately became irate that the price changed so I reminded him we had to re-blast it. He said"I willhave to think about this" and hung up on me. About 10 minutes later he called back and said he was mad and didn't think he was even going to pick it up now, then hung up on me again. I tried calling him back to work it out but he wouldn't answer my calls.
I took him to small claims court and of course was awarded the money he owed. Even though he was supposed to pay through the court and pick up the chassis within 10 days of the judgement it's been 2 years so far and I still have the chassis at my shop and he has not paid a dime.
