I was contacted by this so called collection agency, stating they were collecting for a creditor. They told me they had the power to throw me in jail if I did not set up a payment plan! Not knowing my rights I agreed to a payment plan. I informed my daughter of what happened, and she told me in no way were they able to do such a thing as put me in jail. I was also informed that since my only income was SSI I was excempt from collection. My first payment that I was supposedly to pay to them (by check) was due 8/5/11. I of course did not pay them. Then the fun started. When I recieved my bank statement Septemer, I found that this collection agency had actually gotten hold of my bank's routing number and my checking account number and had taken a total of $380. out of my account!! My daughter called an attorney who told us that we needed to send a certified letter to them, requesting immediate repayment, a copy of my SSI income, and letting them know I was excempt from collection because of this. They recieved my letter 9/22/11 and I have not heard a word from them. I have called them numerous times and all I get is a message that no one is available to take my call. Thank goodness my bank gave me back they money they took out of my account. I doubt I will hear anything from them or have my money returned to the bank.
