| This grading curve at this law school is set up for several reasons that are not in your best interests. I am so mad at myself that I bombed my GPA in undergrad because I really do not belong at this law school and should be at UCSD. Anyway what's done is done, and Thomas Jefferson got me in at first by offering my a $30,000 scholarship, which required me maintaining a certain GPA in order to keep it. But here's what they do: when you get in with this scholarship they put you in a Legal Writing Class with a man named professor Slattery, who is a douchbag. Slattery had my class do a crapload of extra work on our final paper the LAST WEEK before final exams. I was unable to keep up because I was having trouble in another class, and I also think he knew which paper was mine even though the grading is "anonymous" (he didn't like me). Long story short I failed legal writing and therefore this scholapship they give you is not as easy to keep as it seems. Second point, the classes in general are curved waaaay too low. Most classes are curved at a 3.0 GPA in law schools, with some exceptions of course but the ABA only requires a minimum curve of 2.5. Thomas Jefferson adheres to this minimum curve because 1) they don't want you to transfer to another law school, and 2) they don't want you to graduate early! Third, this school is full of rich spoiled lawyer kids who do not want to go to other schools, but have parents / family / friends who are lawyers. In my opinion the cheating at this school is completely out of hand, and the administration acts like they are on top of it probably just so they won't get sued (Thomas Jefferson has been sued several times by students rumor has it). They actually kicked one of these kids out for cheating because he emailed his legal writing paper to his father over the school server, but this kid was the ONLY ONE. I would bet everyone who has someone to email their paper to does it, and the school doesn't really care overall because it MAKES IT EASIER TO CURVE THE CLASSES. If you fall behind in a class, if you are too busy to study for a midterm, if you don't quite get it, then study all you want for the final you will get a 2.0-2.3, or even worse fail. There are only about 10% of the people at this school getting actual good grades (as in above 3.3), and I think it's already getting even worse since a bunch of people just graduated early (I got a C in classes this semester that I thought I was going to at least get a B+ in) It is not surprising that Thomas Jefferson Law School has the highest average student loan debt of ANY LAW SCHOOL IN THE ENTIRE COUNTRY! This is at least partially because you won't have time to work on the side since you will be so busy trying to study your a** off to raise your grades. A lot of the people getting good grades are smart but some of them just smooze teachers and older students for help and learn what is going to be on the final exams. And some of the students just straight up cheat too! I know this kind of crap goes on at all law schools but trust me Thomas Jefferson is worse. Every lawyer I have talked to about the curve at this school says it is BS, and it's only going to get worse because the people getting good grades just keep transferring out and graduating early (because EVERYBODY hates going there!) Don't get ripped off, unless you are desperate to go to law school in California like I was go somewhere else and save yourself some time and money. |
