WOW! I read what this person wrote about THEBARTERTOWN.NET and nothing could be further from the truth! we found this site via Google with a generic search and did not get spammed. Everyone knows since you mentioned craigslist, different people send you something like this website's address as a referral, hoping you reply. Once you have replied then they have your regular e-mail address instead of the @CRAIGSLIST. We have had a great experience using this site THEBARTERTOWN.NET for small business. Our sales have increased and our ad is indexed on Google as promised when we purchased the 2.0 package. I find it very disheartening to see comments like this, everyone has read the story about this guy who started this site after losing everything! How dare you USER662974 stop being such a loser.
PS we post on craigslist as well and never have gotten a spam e-mail from this website before. |

Recently, I received two emails from interested buyers of my merchandise for sale. They seemed to be perfectly legitimate. As soon as I told them I would only accept a money order or cashiers check for the merchandise, I no longer heard from them. Plus, they wanted me to pay the shipper out of the "check" that they sent but I had to cash it first. Don't let yourself be caught up in this kind of scam where you cash their check only to find out it is no good and the money is coming out of your account. |

craigs will protect you as much as they can, but when you choose to hide and then list your email address in your ad thats when crap comes, you just need discipline not to respond to it and only to identified buyers who supply their name and number and let you call them direct. |

They SPAM me every day!!! They use different email addresses with the same message. It is driving me insane. Below is the email.
Are you aware that this ad may not be showing up on search engine results?
Hundreds of thousands of people per day go to their Google bar and search for this topic. If your ad does not show up there, odds are they will never make it here to contact you. Take four minutes and copy this ad over to the site. We did, here is the address and good luck. Hope you did not mind the friendly suggestion.
www.thebartertown.net/free is what we use and it works perfect. Its fast, no sign up required. You will get a lot of traffic from it for this ad. I know we get results from it for shore. Ok good luck and hope it was ok to mail you. |

This is a TOTAL scam. They have gone to my Craigslist post for MY LOST DOG every day and sent me scam emais. I get many of them everyday from varios hotmail accounts. It is a spam scheme and needs to be SHUT DOWN. www.bartertown.net is perfect example of a spammer of the worst kind. |

Bartertown is the worst kind of spammer. Post on CraiglsList and they spam you endlessly. They are immoral, criminal scum. |

I have never been as slammed with spam emails as with Bartertown. Bartertown goes through our postings,
poses as candidates only to send spam about Bartertown. I have written to complain and have gotten no response. In my 30+ years in recruiting -have never experienced anything like this before.
It's a disgrace. |

Hello
This is in response to the comments posted on this site about thebartertown.
the owners of the The Barter Town have been working on privacy issues just the same as craigslist has been working on their privacy issues. If you notice on both sites e-mail addresses are open and accessible by anyone who visits or scrapes either site. The bartertown is a free/paid site exactly like craigslist. It is common knowledge that people respond to craigslist ads to get your real e-mail address and then spam you. This is also happening to the posters at The Barter town. The difference is you may open a support ticket at the bartertown located at the bottom of the site and tell them you are getting spammed. They will block your specific e-mail address from receiving any outside correspondence or non-solicited e-mails from anyone due to a built-in security system. We can assure you the site is not a scam and has had provided an extremely effective service for either free/or paid accounts for hundreds of thousands of members and users.
The site offers members to index their ads very high on Google and does does work. We also know that they have given thousands of dollars in refunds to unhappy customers. This does not sound like a scam to us.
Best regards
craigslist and bartertown user and happy. |

Thebartertown.net spams craigslist postings to promote their site. They should invest in copywriters! |

More craigslist spam from these losers. If they did the job they claimed they could do they wouldn't need to spam. |

I am constantly getting spammed by Bartertown, all from someone at hotmail. Anyone know their physical address, or at least where they are registered?
Time to file a harassment suit against them. Let Bartertown spend their own money finding out who is spamming me and wasting my time. |

People, people. Every mail client has a way to filter emails. Just filter/delete/mark as spam the emails based on keywords "bartertown" "thebartertown" etc etc and be done with it. |

The people commenting that bartertown is somehow a "great site" and saying that it's not bartertown who is doing the spamming are LIARS who work at bartertown - this issue of the original post was regarding spam, but the ones who apparently back this company skirt right around this issue - somehow them spamming is ok because they're a reputable company?? Doesn't work.
If they were a reputable company, they would provide an unsubscribe link and not hide behind disposable email addresses. I have been on Craigslist for many years and I know exactly how companies like this operate - they use bots to scrub email addresses from Craigslist ads. They're not the only ones to do this, but they are the latest and most annoying spammer to do this. They send me anywhere between 8-15 spam emails per day.
Spamming on this level is dispicable to say the least. |

I'm having the same issue as everyone above. Does anyone know a way to filter out these emails or get them to stop? My craigslist ad was up for less than 24 hours before I removed it and I have been receiving daily emails from them for a month now.
Barter Town employees, stop lying and saying that someone else is responsible for the spamming emails. There is no one benefiting from the spam emails except for your company gaining name recognition (albeit negative). It's making you guys look really bad, and no one is fooled. You are littering and polluting the internet, and I hope you enjoy living in the filth that you have created; it's gonna bite you in the ass. |

im am equally frustrated as the above people
. Im getting daily "helpful" emails on how to get a better response to my craigslist ad ( by posting on bartertown) from strangers with wierdly spelled yahoo email addresses.
i have never in my life recieved as much spam from any otehr company- combined compared to the volume
of junk from bartertown.
cant the FCc or someother organization do something?
I have a regular PC- and no, I cannot block emails with a keyword- only specific addresses.
somebody needs to get this company in line! AAuugghh! |

I began getting the emails promoting bartetown dot net after I posted my craigslist ad. I KNEW it was a scam. No legitimate business or service goes around harvesting email addresses from craigslist ads then sending out bogus form emails in droves. But I went to the site and saw that they had a "free listing" option, so I thought "what the heck?" I listed with them. Of course, the website asked me ten times "Are you sure you want to post a free listing and not upgrade to get all these extra features?" but I just stuck with the free listing.
Well not an hour later, I get a phone call in polite broken english from a man asking about my listing. He spouted a ton of bull about how he was my "designated agent" or some such nonsense, and he was going to push my listing into priority status, etc etc. Finally after about five minutes of him blabbering on, he got to the point: "And the best part is, you can get all this for just $5 a month." I was laughing on the inside, but I nicely told him "No thanks." Well, as soon as he heard that, mid-sentence he switched from being polite to actually yelling at me. "THERE'S NO FREE LISTING!" he said. I said "I don't need a listing, then, thanks." and he responded "WELL WHY DID YOU POST ONE THEN? GOODBYE!" He said something else, but I just hung up on him, and told my boyfriend about it. We had a good laugh. Here's a tip, barternet dot com: If you want people to think you're a legitimate site (which I'm convinced you're not), how bout tell your sales reps not to yell at people. |

If these email spams are not coming from Bartertown then why are they pitchng Bartertown? I made the mistake and am now paying for it. I have submitted 3 of their so-called tickets and they have not responded to one of them. Their online chat service is NEVER and I mean NEVER available. I believe it is only there to make them look credible. The ones posting here in support of them in my opinion are probably making money off them in some way. They are horrible. I also got the call after posting a free ad and their rep said they were going to move me into a prime ad. Get that? They didn't ask me they said they were going to. I told them NO NO NO I don't want it and so they hung up on me. Very unprofessional company. Stay away from them. I got no spam from posting on Craigslist UNTIL I posted a free ad on Bartertown. That is a scam in my opinion. Stay away from them completely. |
