I am writing this report after reading a complaint made against the Africa Society President, Bernadette Paolo by one of its former workers. The report was made to the board and I have also read the response by the board. The board did not deny any of the allegations or even address them. Instead it chose to get rid of this worker and claim that it was due to financial reasons. But this worker was the most qualified person in the organization to provide education on Africa, which is what the NGO claims to do (I have reviewed his qualifications and experience on his website). When you downsize, do you start with your most qualified and talented workers? Also, he was the only one that was removed from the organization. If his allegations were right, why has no action been taken against the president? If they were wrong, why did the board not establish that fact? If we cannot trust this organization to treat its workers fairly, can we trust it to play the educational role that it claims to play? This is not hearsay as the worker in question has agreed to make public his report to the board and the board's response. To get a copy of his report, email him at [email protected]. As a fellow African I have promised this worker that I will help get the word out about the crookedness of this NGO. Meanwhile, I have sent an open letter to the board of the Africa Society. Let's take action and expose dubious NGOs that continue to receive donor money.
