SUMMIT VAN LINES
Summit Van Lines Inc. Mover beware, major scam, will increase charges after loading your things, wont tell you where they are and damage your item
18th of Jan, 2011 by User961201
Took in several quotes, picked this Summit Van lines after speaking with them in depth. It was not the lowest quote but median.

Sent the moving company an itemized list, they responded with an approximate weight and quote. I was ok with it again it wasnt the cheapest but thought it would be more professional. They will agree or tell you anything to get your business then not follow through or will continue to hold their agreement.

They showed up in a small 26 ft vehicle, sloaded all my things. They appeared to be careful and wrapped the big items well. The rest were in boxes that I had packed.

I had my inventory sheet and each item was numbered. They were to store the items until I could get settled then deliver them to me or a storage facility of my choice.

Once all items were loaded on the vehicle and moments before lwe were to drive outthe mover comes in to rget the 50% down and he wanted cash as they had expenses he said.

He increased the quote to almost double. It was 2100 originally then this guy says I should take the flat rate of 4700.00 He advised that the original quote I had was not correct and the items would weigh alot more than originally quoted. He adivsed I would be better to take the flat rate he was offering. I asked for a weigh of the items and he said I could not have it both ways. I had to chose right then that he was a good judge of the weight and he was sure it would be way over what I had been quoted that I should take the flat rate. I asked again to make up my mind after it was weighed and he said I didnt understand, that I could not have it both, weigh and then decide.

I relunctantly and with advising him that I would take it up with the company before delivery that I thought it was way too high. But I did pay the 50% down as they had my things all loaded on the truck and I was just about to leave for a 825 mile move to another state.

When I arrived to my destination I called the moving company and advised them what had occurred. I was passed to one person to another advising that each one would have to speak to their supervisor. The original personthat I received the original quote from changed his demeanor nowthat they had my things. He was very polite then but now was sarcastic and denying the things he agreed to before.

After going through 4 persons I was told they would knock off 150.00 but that was all. I advised them I was not happy with that but I had no choice but to accept that 150 discount and pay the balance upon delivery. I asked each time I was passed from each person where my things were held and I was not told. I asked in email and I was not told. I felt as though they were holding my items hostage to make me agree to pay the gouged price. I never knew the addresswhere my items were held.

I set up delivery to a storage facility. The deliverers were late with truck problems and they came the next day late. They arrived in an 18 wheeler that had 2 other peopls furniture on it. My things were stacked in two different areas on the truck like they were crammed in. It was awful.

The delivery drivers complained about how far the storage unit was from the doorway. The delivery drivers called for help to unload and those people didnt show up. As these delivery persons unloaded my items I was marking it off my inventory list. As things progressed several items had obvious damage and I questioned them about this. I advised them I would notate on the list. They said ok.

They were so bad at unloading the items that my family came to help unload. Total unload time was 5 hours and I didnt even have a full house of items. It was one bedroom, a kitchen and living room.

I asked the delivery person to sign my list and he refused however after calling his boss he did sign their inventory list that I made note on the large items that were damaged.

I filed a complaint with Florida State consumers but the Moving company did not respond to them to work this out.

This same moving company referred me to an insurance company so I could take out extra moving insurance. I did buy a policy andjust like the moving companythey denied the claim.

I bought total replacement and an extra addemdum to cover the electronical and mechanical components and the insurance company refused to pay the claim stating I didnt notate with the moving company paperwork at the time of delivery all the damages. The policy states I have 45 days to inform them of the damages.

This lets me know these two companies are connected. Evidently they are believing the moving company and not me or the copies i sent them showing the deliver did sign on the damages.

Later I rented a place and after unpacking my things I realized more items were missing or damaged.

I was charged almost double what the original quote was. It went from 2100 to 4700.00 after all my items were loaded.

They wouldnt give me the exact address of my items and gave me the run around through 4 people when I had a problem with the charge.

Summit Van linesdamaged many of my items and 15 boxes didnt get delivered. The items damaged that should be replaced and items that were not delivered are valued at approx 6000.00 The coverage I paid for was for 14,655.00 total replacement and electronic/mechanical coverage.

The insurance company they refered me to Is Movinginsurance.com/relocators insurance company/AGCS Marine Insurance Company

I bought total replacement policy that listed all the major items and those were the ones that got damaged or didnt make it to delivery.

To add insult to injury, If I try legal recourse it must be done in their state and not here where the items were delivered.

I cant even file against them here in small claims court. There is nothing I can afford to do to try to recomp any of these expenses.

I wish I could file in criminal court charging them for felony vandalism and theft but it is a civil matter and not criminal.

I think its both, civil and criminal.

Both of these companies are crooked. The moving company will give you a average quote but then after getting your items they will change the agreement with you. They wont say a word about it until they load the very last item on the truck.

You have to pay the remaining 50% before they will unload your things.

This moving company and the insurance company they refer you to are both scam companies.

These companies are destroying peoples lives.
