Student Services Inc used ACT.ORG Information to Mislead Me Addison, Texas |
17th of Apr, 2011 by User909378 |
A couple of days after I completed FAFSA.ORG for our son to go to college, I received a call from Student Services. She said she knew I'd signed up for the ACT Online Prep, and had the materials ready to ship, but I had to provide a credit card as a deposit. When I received the materials, there was a survey inside that said if I tried to dispute this charge on my credit card, I would be fined $5,000. I tried numerous times to get a "call tag", but have been unsuccesful. I was told today that there was no way I was going to ever get a refund, and the woman I was speaking with was the last person I'd be dealing with at that company. They violated the security of ACT.ORG to find that I'd purchased the Online study prep. They also violated the Missouri No-Call policy as we've been charter members. They also committed fraud by posturing themselves as part of ACT. |

people ripped me of to, would not give me the RA # to send it back in the 14 day trial period |

My daughter completed some paperwork for college and I received a phone call about this prep material for the SAT. I was told that my credit card would not be charged until I had a chance to reveiw the material for 14 days and it could be extended for 30 if needed. My card was charged the very next day for 142.99. I called when I realized it and was told I would get a full refund within 24 hours. Have not yet received it nor have I received any material. Spoke to a representative today and was told that I had to send the material back (it has been sent) and when they received it they would start to process my refund. I have been lied to and they have misrepresented themselves. DONT TRUST THIS COMPANY TO ONLY CHARGE YOUR CARD AFTER THE 14 DAY TRIAL, THEY WILL CHARGE IT IMMEDIATELY. |

Does anyone have the phone number for this company
Unfortunately they told my husband that I requested this stuff(even though I absoutely declined it when they called the day before), so he went ahead with it
I received one little box, with no paperwork, no billing, no way to return it.
Does the psat registration company know this student services company is doing this? |

Yes you can dial either 972-546-8888 oe 877-773-8050. I am a previous employee of this company and everything you all are saying is indeed true. I only worked in the sales department, they only have one person in customer service. I worked there for a month and after about 3 weeks I had my reservations about the job b/c the owner, Frances, claims to be an ordained minister and wanting to help parents and children out but does not run her establishment like one that is ordained by God. Whenever they told us to tell the parents it was a "conditional charge", after turning in the information they ran the cards. They told us to state that we were SAT/ACT advisors and we were in fact not, I have a college degree but several of the people working there don't have that. And if the parents questioned who we were, we were to tell them that we were a "supplemental agency that works w/the college board and school districts" and that was an outright lie. My father is a teacher and so are a few of my other relatives and friends and I know for a fact for this to be a lie. The company is in more debt than what's coming in, we all had problems trying to cash our checks several times and they told us nothing. Many people who put their checks in their bank accounts, the checks were put on hold. Their credibility with different banks, stores, and check cashing places in the Dallas area is ridiculous. So to those parents who got ripped off, I'm sorry I thought that the customers were getting their refunds, but spread to as many people as you possibly can that this company is no good and fraudulent. They were shut down once and they need to be shut down again! |

I feel I am being scamed by this company and I strongly believe this company needs to be shut down. I did get my RA# from them but was told they must recieve my return by the first. I kept asking what would happen if the package did not get to them by the first. I work long hours and I can not be responsible for the postal service. The woman in customer service just kept saying "It needs to get to us by the first". She made it seem like she was doing me a favor by giving me an extention to the first. I am very disgusted with this company and want to prevent other parents from making the same mistake I made. The sales rep said they needed a credit card number on hold while I reviewed the CDs. I too was charged right away for the product. I was also told it would take 2-5 days to receive the CDs but it took over a week and a half. I was also told I could review the material for 14 days and if I was not happy I could get a refund. I was never told that I would have to call them, wait to receive and email at 5pm, fill out the questionaire and call them back the next day to get my RA# and return address information. I had to wait until the next day to get the information because Student Services Inc. only sends out a bulk email at 5pm. Guess what time the office closes?? Hmmm it is 5pm! Another day wasted so you don't get the material back in 14 days. It took me half a day to get through to a customer service rep. The line was busy all morning. I am guessing there are a lot of other parents who want a refund.
Student Services Inc. claims to be a non profit agency that wants to help your child succeed. If this were true they would not use such sales tactics. They said my daughter completed something at school that said she wanted scholarship money for college and that she wanted extra help preparing for the SATs. My daughter is in 7th grade! I thought it odd but of course I want my daughter to have any help she needs and to get scholarship money. My daughter said she never filled anything out at school requesting study material. Parents have to know the truth about this company. I do not want anyone else to be scammed like I was. I am going to send the material back tomorrow and hope it arrives to their office by the first. If it doesn't I will do what I have to to get a refund. I am also going to notify the school my daughter attends and make them aware of Student Services Inc practices. I encourage other parents to do the same. |

Yep- everything I've read is true- I've had all the same things happen to me. I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Turns out the owner in in trouable with the courts for a previous business that did the same things.

My husband received a phone call from student services telling how helpful this would be for our son to use before he takes the SAT. $142.99 would be taken from our account, if not satisfied he was told to return for full refund. The merchandise was not what we thought it would be and was returned per the instructions given by student services. Verification receipt was done so no one would say that the merchandise was not returned. My husband and I have called for several months now and still have not gotten refund. This must be a SCAM.
If called; Do not agree to purchase. |

I did file a complaint with the BBB of Dallas. Student services Inc sent a response back. They said I would get my refund. I checked the box that said I was not satisfied with SSI response because it has now been three months and I have not received my refund. I did everything the business told me to do but still no refund. I got a response back from the BBB again today and this is what they had to say. ...You have indicated from your Customer Response that you were not satisfied with the Company Answer in your complaint case. Because of this, we have conducted a case review which includes all of the available documentation contained within the Original Complaint, the Company Answer and the Customer Response.
Based on our review, we have concluded that the company did all that it could have been reasonably expected to or reasonably responsible to do to resolve the issue. The reasons for this conclusion are listed in the comments sections in the link provided below. The case is being closed as Administratively Judged Resolved and this case closure will be summarized as such on our report on the company, as is our standard procedure, for 36 months after the above date
Needless to say I am not happy!! How has SSI done all that they could ??? I do not understand this at all. The only response they gave the BBB was that I would get my money back. How is this an acceptable answer?? Well maybe it is time to file some kind of law suit against Student Sevices Inc. It sure seems that there are enough people out there who have been scammed by this company. It is obvious the BBB is a waste of time and energy. Oh and BTW there was no comment section that listed the reasons for ther decision. I know I did everything Student Services Inc told me to do and I did not get my refund and somehow I am supposed to be OK with it. Well I am not OK with it. Trying to figure out what to do from here... |
