Stoneberry(TM
Stoneberry(TM) I received a Stoneberry catalog in the mail and it had a coupon in it that stated
12th of Nov, 2010 by User945609
I received a Stoneberry Catalog in the mail and it contained a coupon which stated "You're pre-approved to charge up to %500.00." I then placed an order on 4 Novemebr in the amount of $198.95 which was approved and some items have been received. On 5 November I placed another order in the amount of $248.95. On 12 November I received a letter from Stoneberry Credit Department stating that if I were to send and check or money order to them in the amount of $124.48, which is half of the total of my second order, they would continue to process my order. I contacted the credit department and they stated they had no record of me being pre-approved for a $500.00 and asked me to fax them a copy of the coupon and letter to (563) 243-0287 which I did. On 13 November I followed up with with an email to customer serivce requesting to know if this issue had been resolved, and if my order would be proceessed. Below is what they stated in their reply: "ear Harold, We did review your case with the credit department and your pre-approved limit is $100. Therefore any order over that amount is not guaranteed without further approval. The catalog do say up to $500 meaning from $0-$500, it does not say your limit is $500. Thank You Stoneberry Customer Service cak" I was very upset to say the least and consider this to be false advertising on their part and I feel they should honor the coupon and $500.00 credit limit. If my limit was only to be $100.00, then why did they approve my first order in the amount of $198.95? Company's like this do not need to business in my opinion as they use deceptive adds and coupons to lure a customer in and then turn around and screw them! I would appreciate any effort the BBB can bring forth to correct this situation

It seems to me the issue is not with Stoneberry, but rather your lack of intelligence to read more carefully. It said up to $ 500, it did not say $ 500. Up to means from $ 1 - $ 500. Typically stoneberry will give you $ 100 for a first time customer to reduce the risk for them. Pay them on time, and be a customer for 6 months, then apply for a credit limit increase. Next time read it fully. And stop posting that Stoneberry is a scam all over the net. If they wanted too they could sue you for slander. Frankly, I would not blame them if they did. It's people like you who probably use someone for sneezing on you.

I meant sue someone for sneezing on you, not use. :P

i realize the complaint was a year ago but I am going to reply anyway.

research the term "Pre-Approved". Pre approval is a screaning based on address, basic information on you etc. Any pre-approval can be revoked for any reason once they actually look at your credit report. I have received this catalog also and if you read the information on their credit plan it DOES say this.

The catalogs that are sent to you have a maximum credit limit potential attached to them.

Basically dude, your credit must be really, really bad because my credit is bad at this time due to the economy crash a few years ago and my order of 275.00 was approved in full.

Misrepresenting an offer is if you receive a letter telling you that your limit IS 500.00, not up to 500.00.

they ask very litle information and if you cant afford to pay half the amount (only 140.00?) then you probably shouldnt be ordering at all. If you had just accepted their offer, you could of rebuilt your history and you would of gotten a secure limit with them.

Sounds a little preachy I know, but having been in the customer service field for many years, its unfortunate that customers have gotten to the point that they feel they are OWED what they want and forgot that a business is in business to make money, and yes we need customers, but they cant just afford to send out their products without a secure promis of payment or a history to back it up.

Try going to walmart and fill your cart with stuff and then going to the check out and say, you dont know me but I will pay for this later, I promise.

Happy Holidays.
