| I had a similar experience to a previous complainer. I downloaded the software, advertised as free, ran it and was told I had several thousand errors. When I hit the fix errors button, I was told I had to register it...which was NOT free. Like the previous complainer, I was also charged for soemthing I did not want or need. After the fixes, there was no noticeable speedup of the machine and I concluded that most of the fixes were cosmetic...and ueseless. For example, all files were erased from some "temp" folders...something one can easily do for oneself, which frees up some disk space, but has little or no effect on the speed of the machine. Almost all the so called errors were of this type. The accompanying blurb to the download guarantees a full refund I you are not satisfied. As I was not, I then sought contact information. There was no email address, no fax and the supplied 800 telephoone number leads to yet another scam (?), a number that gives you useless information about the number you have called and charges you for this "service". In short, this company...which, by the way, lists itself as a trusted Microsoft "partner"...the main reason I downloaded it in the first place...this company is a complete ripoff. There was a snail mail address which I will now endeavor to write for my "guaranteed" refund. I will report if this has any worthwhile results, which I now truly doubt. |

This is without any doubt a scam operation. Unfortunately, they immediately ask for access to your computer. How much information they are able to download from your computer is unknown during that session.
The phone connection required to activate the program is nothing more than a scam artist who tries to sell you hundred dollar options you don't need. This is done by showing you routine information readily available to you with msconfig and/or task manager.
They show you a csrss.exe file on your computer then bring up a web link showing this as a serious worm that can harm your computer. csrss.exe is a routine file that belongs to microsoft and is on all computers running Windows.
Be alert that they are not at all interested in what if any problems you are having with your computer, the type of computer you have or anything else that anyone would need to know if they were interested in fixing any problem.
Note that they will ask you if you run any finanacial programs with your computer.
How much information they were able to access while linked to my computer is unknown. However, there is no doubt whatever that this is a fraudulant company and you may be at great risk by running their program and especially when contacting them. |

I had the same thing happen to my father as well. He thought he was buying software to help recover a file on his computer. Before I know it, he was calling a support person to activate his software. I took the phone over from him. The support 'technician' had me go to logmein123.com and took control of my computer. He moved very quickly, so I didn't quite follow all the steps he was running. But he pulled up eventviewer to show all the errors in the application log. Then he pulled up task manager and showed me csrss.exe process was running. He indiated the csrss.exe file was a trojan file by referencing this website: http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/csrss/
He said I could take my computer to best buy or some other authorized microsoft dealer and pay 300-400 to fix. He said he could fix in 60 minutes for 199.99. He indicated this trojan would allow outsiders access to personal information that he accesses on websites. I started to ask questions like why don't I just don't performa factory restore? He said the damage has already been done and has spread to my home network, which made no sense. Then he tried to tell me that it wasn't on my home network, but somewhere else on the internet, which made even less sense. He immediately tried to get me to commit. I started asking more questions. Each time his explanation made less sense. My final question was to ask again for the filename that he said was corrupt so I could do some further research myself. After that, he couldn't get off the phone fast enough with me. My father thought he was buying recovery software for 9.99. But instead he was charged 39.94, which was set up as a reoccurring charge (frequeny unknown). I called Safecart.com through the payment for this was made through. To my surprise, they were willing to provide my father a full refund without any questions. They didn't even seem to care that the speedy pc software remained on his computer. Needless to say, I removed it immediately. The phone number I called for this activation was 1-855-838-9715 which refers to itself as "Premium Technical Support". I find it ironic, that I used to take my father with me to fix my car so I wouldn't get ripped off by a corrupt auto repair store. Now I'm having to protect my father from getting scammed from corrupt software "technicians". If I could find out the basis behind this scam, I'd like to ring their necks. |

I downloaded Speedy and ran it. Decided not to spend the $30 so I started to erase the program. There was a popup offering the program for $10. I paid by credit card. 2 days later I was charged $10, The program works. If things are being erased then do a dropdown and check off things that you don't want erased. I'm not saying it's great, but it 's OK.
