SMC Specialty Merchandise called several months ago offering a internet site with a merchandise service for a small one time payment at a time when I was looking for work but after giving them my credit card information they disclosed a monthly membership fee and reserved the right to increase this fee as they wish. I told them to cancel my membership but got charged the full amount on my credit card. After disputing the charge with Capital One I thought I was through with them but when my card maxed out several months later I noticed SMC Merchandise has been charging 79 dollars per month on my card. When I called them to ask about the charges they said they said I can't cancel my membership and they would take me to collections if I dispute the charges. They also told me they are going to continue charging my card and there is nothing I can do to cancel membership because the 30 day trail period has passed so the internet membership is permanent. When I asked to talk to her manager I was put on hold for over 45 minutes before I gave up and hung up. I disputed the newest charge of 79 but I don't think I will be able to recover the hundreds they took over previous months and would love to be part of a class action lawsuit as this has had a permanent effect on my credit score.
