I purchased a mattress from the Sleepy's store in Hackensack, NJ. My order came to just under $1000. With a purchase under $1000 you get 6 month 0% financing and over $1000 you get 12 months 0% financing. I told him that I wanted the 12 month financing and not the 6 and he said that since I was less than $30 away from hitting $1000 he can give me the 12 months financing.
He told me that the computer won't accept it and the corporate office will have to adjust it once they receive the order but that it would be stated on the sales invoice.
So, on the Sleepy's sales invoice, he typed in12 MONTHS NO INTEREST FINANCING TO BE GIVEN TO THE CUSTOMER ON THIS ORDER in caps. It registered 6 months on the financing sheet but he assured me that since this was part of the original sales receipt and typed it not written in that it would be honored.
Well, needless to say, I never got my 12 months financing. When I called the store, the salesperson said that his boss probably forgot follow-up on it with the corporate office and that I need to call them directly. When I said that they should call to fix it since it was their mistake, he stated that "I did not make any mistake so it is not my responsibility".
So I called the corporate office and spot to a very rude customer service associate name Kris who told me that it is my own fault for signing something that did not spell out the correct terms. I told him how the 12 months was entered onto the sales invoice and he sent me a copy of it to show me that he had it in front of him and he said that it was simply request made by the salesperson not anything promised to me and that next time I should be more careful when signing agreements.
I asked to speak to a manager, he said his manager was busy. I asked for his contact information, he gave me the generic phone number and email address for sleepys. I asked for his last name, he wouldn't give it to me. The only thing he would give me is the name "Russell Richardson" whom he said was his manager but I couldn't have any of his contact information, instead Russell would contact me.
Both the salesperson and the customer service rep Kris were rude, condescending and simply repeated the same statements over and over. They felt that there was no wrongdoing on their part and that it was my mistake for not verifying the terms. I kept stating that it was on the sales invoice entered by the salesperson and why would I have reason to doubt? Worse case scenario is that I would have just spent another $30 to get the financing for 12 months. I will never buy from them again after this mess. |
