Skyline Homes Poor Workmanship and Bad Service McMinnville, Oregon |

Purchased with cash the Skyline Bunkhouse in May 2011. One week after handing over $100k, was told the factory was shutting down for a month and the home would take 8-10 weeks instead of 3-4 weeks. This was after my old house was torn down and I was living in my motorhome. The reason given was that business was slow! The home was delivered in August and had so much structural damage that it took the assembly crew 4 weeks to get it move in ready. The crew said they had never seen so much damage, but didn't know if it was the transportation company's fault, or the factory. Either way, the home that was supposed to be 5-6 weeks total from the time I handed over my money to the time I could move in. It took 15 weeks. During the final walk through, I reported many issues that needed to be repaired. Largest being the fireplace that was literally falling apart because it hadn't been mortared to the wall and the built in microwave that didn't work. It took two weeks for a repairman to come to the home, he did some of the little easy fixes, but said he would have to come back to repair the fireplace and they weren't going to do anything about the microwave, I would have to contact the manufacturer myself and have them come repair it. It took another month for the repairman to come fix the fireplace. He and his partner took all the bricks off and remortared them to the wall. However, they didn't take the fireplace insert itself apart and when we went to use it a few days later, we found the mechanics hadn't been assembled. The wires were just laying there unconnected. The blower also hadn't been attached. On the last visit from the repairman he informed me he didn't have the replacement cabinet door that was extremely damaged, he also didn't have the air vents for under the bathroom sinks, so the bathrooms smelled like sewer. He said he would Fed Ex them to me if I would install them myself. I said that was fine. Six weeks later I still didn't have the parts. I've called the service department several times and left messages, but no one ever returns my calls. I went to the dealer's office and found they no longer deal with Skyline because of all the problems, but they would try to help get ahold of someone to help me. I went to Lowe's and bought the vents myself at $25 each ( I needed 3) and installed them myself. I have lived in the house for 2 months now and find that the floor squeaks in every room, the doors were hung improperly and squeak, many of the cabinet doors have staples sticking out because it was put together improperly, the vinyl flooring is coming up in multiple spots, the light in the shower goes out when the bulb gets hot, the deck flooring has huge gaps in spots, some of the windows are difficult to open and almost come off their tracks and the dryer vent was put in the wrong spot. The quality of the wood trim, cabinets and doors is extremely poor. The carpet bars at the opening of every door has nails poking through. I have spent hundreds of dollars replacing and repairing things in the home myself since Skyline has refused to return my calls and provide the repairs they said they would. This experience has been stressful, expensive and disheartening. Skyline should not be able to release such poor quality and workmanship on the market. |
