Simply Audiobooks SCAM -- you can sign up online and pay online but you can't cancel online!!! Buffalo, NY Nationwide |

If you search for "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Audiobook Download" you get many, many links to Simply Audiobooks. Which is lie number one: they do now have any Harry Potter books for download. Granted you get links to other websites that also do not have it for download, so if it were just some overzealous search engine optimization I would not be complaining. I love audiobooks and already have memberships on all the other audiobook websites. I have been downloading audiobooks for many, many years. I am also very familiar with accessible books, be they e-books or audiobooks. Many, many people with disabilities turn to audiobooks because of vision problems, dyslexia or a physical disability that prevents holding a book. It stands to reason that an audiobook company would meet standards for accessibility. So I signed up for the free trial. I was hesitant to enter credit card info for a free trial but that is not so unusual. I was very concerned when I saw that a phone number was mandatory and I should have stopped then. Yet I finished the sign up form. It even took 3 tries to get the credit card info in correctly because of the web site inaccessibility. Then I realized that Simply Audiobooks did not have the book I wanted for download. I decided to cancel my free trial. And that's the catch, you can't cancel your free trial online. Supposedly for security reasons. Why it is acceptable to enter your credit card info and sign up online giving vulnerable personal info but it isn't acceptable to cancel is beyond me. It can only be that they are setting you up for some shifty business practices. They must hope that making it inconvenient to cancel and for some people who cannot access a phone because of disabilities or cannot make calls during their hours of operation making it impossible will lead to racking up credit card charges. If it were any one thing - just misleading advertising or just poor accessibility I wouldn't be so furious, but taking my credit card info for a free trial and not allowing me to cancel that trial and remove my info in the same manner is wrong. Stay away from Simply Audiobooks if you have a disability, care about people who have disabilities or just don't want to be scammed. I will vouch for -- go there instead. |
