Scotty's Automotive scam Roanoke, Texas
26th of Dec, 2011 by User451946

In December 2011 my son was driving our 2000 Ford Explorer to Denton TX from Keller TX.

He noticed the temperature gauge going above the half way mark. He called me and I asked him to stop at the gas station at I:35 and 407. To be safe and not sorry my wife drove him to school and we left the vehicle there. I called the

next day and asked Scotty’s Automotive if they would have it towed to their shop and diagnose the problem.

I called 2 days later and Scott told me the thermostat housing was bad and it would be around $750.00 to fix it. He assured me this would correct the problem. I gave him a verbal ok to fix it. Another 2 days went by so I called to see if the car was ready. He said there was a very small exhaust leak in the engine. He told me there was a new product out called Blue Devil. He said he had used this product in seven other cars and it worked awesome. He gave a price of $70-$80 for this procedure. Again I did give him a verbal ok. What he did not tell me was that this product could do more damage to the engine and other working parts on the engine. He only told me how awesome it was. The next day I called back and he said the car would be ready to be picked up by 5pm and that it was working fine.
We live about five miles from his shop in Keller. My wife drove the car home. When she got in it she immediate had to get gas because the gauge was way below empty. She said it was running badly all the way home. The next morning she went to drive the car to work it would not start. I called the shop and kept leaving messages for him to call me and he never did. The next day I called from another phone line and he answered. He said he got the messages but was not returning calls that day because his brother was sick and in the hospital. I asked him to come to the house and find out what the problem was and he agreed he would. Later that afternoon around 3pm my wife got home from work and he told her there was some bad stuff coming out of the exhaust pipe and he left.

Again no response from him regarding the car so I called again. He said he was waiting on my son to call him. I asked why. He said he was waiting on him to tell them how hot the engine got. I asked why. His comment was that they watched the car drive off his lot for 2 blocks and that there was not any white smoke coming out of the exhaust. I never said anything about white smoke. At this point he is not making sense to me and is sounding like he is hiding something. I asked him to please find out why the car would not run, that we just spent a lot of money to him to correct a problem that apparently it had not been fixed. I have never heard from him again. The next day (Saturday) I did go to my bank and dispute the charges.

A few things to be noted
My wife said the inside of the car reeked of cigarette smoke when she drove it home. We do not smoke.
There was a grease rag and a car part left in the back seat.

The car part does not belong to us nor does the grease rag.
There is a dent in the back bumper and a scratch in the side door area paint that was not there before it went to the shop.
There were cigarette butts left in my driveway after they were at my house looking at it.
