| Scott Israel-Will Minority Voters Buy This Racist's Lies? |

Retired North Bay Village Chief of Police Scott Israel is taking another stab at the Broward County Sheriff position. Scott Israel first ran for office in 2008 but lost to incumbent Sheriff Al Lambarti. And like that first election, Israel is once again falsely running as a democratic candidate.
Scott Israel was a registered republican for roughly three decades before 2008. But when Israel realized he couldn't compete against Lambarti in the republican primary, he switched teams. Under his new political affiliation, Scott Israel was able to draw in the predominantly democratic minority vote. This was both unfortunate and ironic, because Scott Israel has a long record of racial discrimination and abuse.
Scott Israel tried to spin the 2008 campaign to make Lambarti look like a racist. But one glance at Scott Israel's Internal Affairs records reveals that the exact opposite is true. Every single case against Israel involved a minority suspect. Three of the most alarming instances are as follows:
1) One case reported that a group of tourists witnessed Scott Israel and a fellow officer savagely beating a handcuffed individual. According to Israel, the beating was justified because the suspect had a pocket knife. Many question whether the suspect planned on maliciously using the pocket knife, a relatively common item for men to carry. Others question whether maliciously using a knife is even possible with one's hands shackled behind one's back.
2) Another case involved a shooting in a Floridian residential neighborhood. During a foot chase, Scott Israel drew a firearm and shot at a fleeing suspect. While no one was injured, many wondered whether the use of the firearm was necessary. Some people point to the fact that all the bullets fired went astray, and they potentially could have hit innocent bystanders.
3) A Third case involved an off-duty Scott Israel starting an unprovoked fight while drinking at a bar. Before the fight began, Israel called his on-duty brother, Ira Israel, for “backup.” The brothers proceeded to beat the victim into a bloody pulp. The victim was then arrested and later hospitalized for broken ribs and eye injuries.
Of course, the above cases are only the tip of the iceberg. Much of what occurred at these events and several others remains unknown. Half of the files covering more detailed accounts of the cases have gone missing. Among the missing files are details allegedly covering racial profanities used by Scott Israel during arrests.
Although a significant portion of minorities vote democrat, a vote for Scott Israel clearly won't benefit Broward's minority population. |
