Regions Auto Part
Regions Auto Part misled on engine Tampa, Florida
4th of Apr, 2011 by User387367

I bought a used engine from Josh M. of Regions Auto Parts on March 11, 2011. Josh told me that the engine had 41,912 miles on it & was in good condition. He said that it would be shipped as soon as he received my credit card authorization. I faxed the document on 03/11/11. And waited. The part arrived on 03/24/11. To make a long story short, the engine has "rod knocking" & is no good. I did a little research with the tracking # & found out that the engine was sold to Prestige Auto Parts (partner, affiliate, or alias of Regions Auto Parts) by noname, Pensacola FL. I called noname & inquired about the engine sold with tracking # xoxoxoxo (yrc.com) & they told me that the engine had 184,000 miles on it. I called Regions to see what they would do to fix the situation, & they told me to look at my warranty- ship it back at my expense. They do not cover labor etc. That would be understandable IF they actually sent me an engine in good condition with 41,912 miles on it. After a little more research, I found 3 similar complaints against Regions Auto Parts at Ripoff Reports. Complaints #703810, #689455 & #694815 sound just like mine. At this point, I'll be out shipping 2 ways & labor to my mechanic, approx. $850.00, IF regions refunds the cost of the engine. & I still need an engine.

I have a similar experience with this company. An engine with 42K miles, according to Regions Auto Parts, was shpped and on arrival was found to have rust outside as well as inside the cylinders. A totally unusable engine.

Regions Auto Parts... I would hesitate to call them scam artists, because there is no artistry in what they do. They are merely crude scammers. Here's an outline of what seems to be their business process, based on my experience with them.

1) Promise a low mileage engine at low cost. This later turns out to not be low mileage at all and requires extensive repair before it can be used.

2) Promise delivery in just a few days (since they claim to ship from multiple locations). Fail to meet the promised ship date, then claim they never promised it to being with.

3) Promise several other ship dates and fail to meet those, also. During this time, they will also provide tracking numbers that aren't actually tracking numbers, which they will later claim were just numbers used by their system and that they sent them to you in error.

4) Promise to make it up to you with an extended warranty, which they will refuse to give you in writing. When you call later to confirm, they will claim they never made this agreement with you.

5) Stop answering your emails and hang up on you when you call to pressure them to meet their latest ship date.

In short, avoid Regions Auto Parts at all cost. Even if your engine costs more from someone else, it is unlikely you will wait three weeks (instead of the promised 4 days) to get your engine, and also unlikely that you will have to wait an additional three weeks (so far) while the engine is being repaired so that it will be fit for use. No matter what they tell you, do not believe it. Also, if you insist on using them, try to get everything in writing. When it comes down to it, they will make verbal commitments about everything, but avoid documenting anything important, and later claim they never discussed anything with you.

Wishing I had seen all these complaints before I tried to buy from them - similar story, was promised an engine with 53k miles on it, given a VIN number so I could CarFax before purchase, checked it out, it looked legit. Received the engine 19 days after order (rather than 7-10 as promised), to find a different VIN number and a CarFax that shows me 191K miles on it. Called before the truck left to tell them it was not what was promised, should I just not accept the shipment, since I had been assured many times prior to purchase that if the part shipped was not what was promised or was damaged, they would pay to have it shipped back. Was told not to refuse delivery or I would be stuck with restocking and shipping fees. Have called about 7 times and am always told they will get back to me, till the last call when they said it is my responsibility to ship it back or they won't refund the money. ($1685) Thankfully I paid by credit card, have disputed the charge and sent the credit card company their original invoice stating mileage, the actual CarFax report for this engine, and a record of all my attempts at resolving it with them. My last step now is to send them a certified letter giving them 10 days to get this engine picked up or I will assume they have abandoned it and dispose of it myself. They are crooks but with the credit card dispute option and all the documentation I have I don't expect to lose any money - but it still makes me mad as heck that I wasted six weeks of my time on this back and forth and now have to take care of disposing of this piece of junk myself. I hope they are put out of business very soon!
