Public Storage Theft of all belongings & still trying to collect rent Englewood, Colorado |

The corporate website has plenty of information regarding how safe, secure & clean their facilities are; there are even testimonals of happy customers who keep valuable belongings at Public Storage. One even states "Honestly, we feel very safe leaving our stuff here & thats extremly important". What they don't tell you is that at Public Storage there are no cameras or other security measures in place to mitigate damages to your possessions. My son's unit wasn't even entered by cutting the locks they highly suggest you buy; insinuating that if you don't they can't be responsible for your cheap lock being cut off. The theives used a sawzall to slide inbetween the storage door & the frame & cut the hasp off that the locks are attached to and voila they are in. Takes about 10 seconds to go down the isle & hit eight units in one evening because they are no cameras or alarms. Anyone can enter the premises & steal from other units and Public Storage has no precautionary measures in place to keep your stuff safe...don't let the commercials fool you. Go to a facility & pay a little more to have security, real security. I paid for my son's unit on December 21, 2011 and we only found out by accident on January 03, 2012 that all of his belongings...literally everything he owned...had been stolen on December 14, 2011!!!! He tried to get into the property on January 02, 2012 but his code would not work. So he went back the next day during office hours & was told they locked him out because his unit had been broken into! How long were they going to collect rent for a unit which is empty of its contents before they told him it was all gone? Public Storage made no attempts to contact either my son or myself despite the fact they have two contact phone numbers & two email address'. They have no problem calling him if the rent is not paid on time but they didn't call to tell him his stuff was stolen? That's unacceptable! The lack of customer service and consideration for what he was going thru was appaling. The onsite employee did not even offer to get him a dolly to use to move the broken dresser left behind; he was more concerned with my son cleaning up the mess left behind & getting a lock on the now vacant unit. Do not rent from Public Storage unless you are prepared for the possiblity to have it stolen. At the bare minimum you should do research online for thefts from Public Storage units all over the U.S and then decide if its worth it to put your valuables in their units. Even if you have insurance, you still lose your belongings and all they care about is the RENT. |
