Sometimes what PBP reps will do is verbally shove whoever they get a hold of on the phone into a corner and say things like, "Surely your boss trusts your judgment? Would you recommend this title for the budget if you liked what you read and showed it to your boss? Remember, it's really easy to cancel! Blah blah, lies lies, BS, lies..."
We're only *supposed* to sell to managers, but sometimes reps are so desperate to meet a quota that they will throw a subscription at anybody...usually someone who has no idea what they're getting into. They hear the fast-talking salesperson and just agree to everything because they don't know what else to do. Don't be mad at your employee, though...PBP reps are trained to speak this way. They don't care if you don't understand what they're shoving in your face, just as long as you agree to buy it. They rely on employees and managers not picking up every little detail in their speech so they can effectively keep you just ignorant enough to do what they want, but not so little that they are outright lying.
Basically, they've been scamming people for something like 40 years...they are good at it. Your best bet is to ensure your business numbers do not accept blocked callers, and if need be, let any of your actual customers know of the change so they can maybe call you from an alternate number. PBP blocks all their branch numbers because they don't want to deal with the people they've lied to. |
