In 2007 I bought a car through Prestige Financial. I did not have to use this company, but I was encouraged to do so by Larry H. Miller auto dealership. The Presitge Financial office was right next door to the dealership and it was convient. On the loan I had several things I didn't feel like I really needed but my wife did so I complied. One of these things was Land Car Gap Insurance. Which is basically Insurance that is supposed to pay off your loan if you total it and don't get what you owe from your main insurance company. Fast foreward 3 years, my wife totals the car from hitting some road construction debrish left on the road. While waiting for our insurance company to settle on the car, Prestige is calling every day and sometimes multiple times a day. They have been contacted by State Farm multiple times and have been notified of an investigation into the road debrish situation. It takes three months before things are settled and meanwhile Prestige adds every possible late fee and tries to charge it to State Farm. State Farm say no way let the gap insurance company pay your made up fees. When we try to get the gap insurance company to pay their fees they say your gap insurance was cancelled because Prestige reported you three months late on your loan. We checked our credit report and we were not reported as late. After getting the run around I investigated Land Car Gap and found they were a subsiderary of Larry H miller. So basically, the Auto dealership, the gap insurance company and the loan company are all subsideraries of Larry H Miller. No wonder the Gap Insurance didn't want to pay...like robbing Paul to pay Peter. One of the collection officers we worked with was really nice person and she confided in me that what was happening was unethical and wrong and that Prestige violated every tenent of the Fair Debt Collection Act every day. She eventually quit and suprisingly my wife and I stayed friends with her. Some of her horror stories are mind boggling. We experienced some of this as Prestige tried to change their late fees into principle and charge it to us. They literally falsified their documents to the court to try and get a judgment. All this after they received over $44,000 in pay off from State Farm and our three years of loan payment. Over $10,000 above the total loan and $5,000 above what we would have paid with interest had the loan gone the full 5 year loan term. Never, never, never use Prestige Financial for any reason, they are crimminals. Someone should file a class action lawsuit against them, I am sure many prior employees would testify against them as well as defrauded customers. |
