I contracted for a bathtub with installation, assuming I could take a bath in it. I can not. I was told it would have heated air in the jets, it does not. I was told it had a comprehensive guarantee. It does not. I have not returned it because it is too difficult to un-install such an item. Here is My complaint:
I am unable to take a bath in the tub they installed because the water coming into the tub is not hot enough to bathe in. They have an anti scalding valve on the tub that lets in too much cold water. I turned up the heat on my hot water heater to the point where the hot water coming from the rest of my taps around the house is about 125 degrees. Despite this, as I fill the tub, the water from the faucet is 106 degrees, and as the water fills the tub the tap water gets colder and colder. Any water that fills above my thighs gets to be too cool to take a bath in. My most recent bath was with the water up to my navel, and the temperature was 100 degrees F. I would hate to think what the temperatures will be like this coming winter, if this problem doesn't get fixed. The water is further cooled by air from the jets, that was supposed to be heated, and is not. My second complaint is that the Guarantee they sent me after I had already paid for the installation only covers the little rubber door seal. Their brochure stated that the tub was "Backed by a comprehensive Guarantee & After Sales Service" I asked to see the warrantee at the time of the sale, but the salesman said he didn't have a copy with him. He further indicated that I would be provided with a complete warrantee at the time of installation. The installers did not give me a copy either. I may likely not have contracted with Premier if I had known that they did not adequately warrant their product. Their competition has a Lifetime Warranty on :Tub, Door, Seat, and Seal and
10 Years on Fixtures, Grab Bar, Heater, Jets, Motor, and
Pump On January 30 I was visited by a salesman from Premier Bathrooms and contracted with him for a walk-in bathtub model "Plymouth". The Plymouth was a larger tub than I had originally inquired about, but the salesman assured me that it would fit in my bathroom space, and that my 40 Gallon Hot Water heater could handle the larger tub. The jets were described to me as providing heat, as the air circulated so as not to cool the water. At that time, I asked for a copy of the warrantee, and the salesman told me that he didn't have a copy with him but assured me that a full warrantee came with it, and that I would get a copy at the time of installation. The brochure he left me with further states "Backed by a comprehensive Guarantee & After Sales Service by our dedicated personnel."
I paid a down-payment at that time. My installation was postponed several times at Premier's request, and finally, happened on March 20, 2008. At that time I requested a copy of the warrantee, and the installer said that Premier would mail it to me with my receipt. I waited more than the required number of days for the caulk to cure, then contacted "Jennica" at Premier Customer Service by telephone with my first complaints as summarized: 1. The water in the tub is not warm enough for bathing.
2. The air circulator circulates cold air, not heated, as promised. This makes the bath water even colder.
3. The caulk is splitting.
4. Mouldings need to be installed around top. On April 4, 2008, the installer returned and repaired the caulk and applies the requested moulding strips, however, he said he was unable to do anything about the cold air from the jets and the water temperature.
On April 4th I also received in the mail a copy of the warrantee, and found it to have no lifetime warrantee on anything but the door seal, and an inadequate warrantee on any other part. I complained to the BBB (Case#22156703(Ref#14-78000893-22156703-3-225)) but since I had assumed the hot water problem to be the safety valve, so the safety valve was removed caulk was applied where needed, and the case was closed. After the anti scald valve was removed, I was able to get the water level higher before it got to cooled off to take a comfortable bath. However, even with the hot water back under my control, I can still not have a hot bath with water that comes above my naval. I am very sorry that I allowed the sales person to talk me into me to a larger tub than I had originally inquired about. The sales person did not even bother to look in the basement at my hot water heater to see if it could handle the larger volume of water required by the larger tub. I also believe I would not have made this purchase if I had known what a poor warrantee it had, compared to the competition who sells the same tub. One last, but minor thing: the sales rep described to me a different style of door on the tub than what I received. This makes me wonder if they gave me a different (inferior) model. By the way, I reinstated the 10,000 dollars which my credit card company was holding back, so I suppose I have no leverage now in having Premier do right by me. Barb
