After having a large tree come down in our yard, I contacted the Deckyard in St Charles IL and they directed my inquiry to Bob Hopkins at Prairies Hardscape & Design. I entered into a $2000.00 contract with Prairies Hardscape & Design to prepare the yard for the season, plant several trees and bushes and repair areas in our brick patio that had settles or needed service. I also pre-paid a 1000.00 deposit for services on a second contract related to repairing damage that was done by a tree falling which was being submitted for insurance. Due to the company's lack of responsiveness, they were unable to complete the work last fall, however after much conversation they promised to do so this spring and I agreed to allow them to no refund my deposit at that time. After waiting for the temperature to be adequate for finishing the service (in April), I contacted Bob Hopkins and he promised to be out on several occasions, however never showed to complete work. After multiple attempts to get the work complete I finally told him to refund the 1000.00 that I had paid for the work related to the insurance claim (as that work had never been started). He agreed and after several weeks of promising it was in the mail, blaming it on his accountant, and that he would meet me to deliver it, etc... He ultimately called me and told me he did not owe me the money. Even the work that was done under the 2000.00 was complete to a substandard level and not what we had agreed upon when he walked with my wife and I describing what his company would do. I have provided over a year for this company to get their act together and complete the work. I have been forced to even complete some of the work myself so the area was usable after his people came out and spent less than (2) hours (for the 1000.00 worth of work they charged) and then told me they were done. I have logged over 100 call into the company and its attorney. Even the attorney can not get Bob Hopkins to do what he says he will. Appointment after appointment has been blown off, and I am now seemingly left with no alternative but taking action through our court system. Desired Resolution: At a bare minimum they owe me for the $1000.00 I prepaid for services that were related to damage from the tree falling. I would also like to have some recovery for the poor work that was done. |
