This complaint is not only about high pressure sales but also about false advertising and withholding information regarding contracts. I was not told about the long list of contract rules and regulations on the back of my membership application NOR was I told that the only way I could break contract was if I was to die or become permanently injured.

I was called (and I do not know how this facility got my cell phone number) and told that I won a 2 year free membership for myself and a guest. When I got in the gym I was immediately told that I must pay $34 in order to secure my prize. Also that I would have to pay $12 a month for maintenance fees and an annual fee of $44, due December 15th 2011. I was told to sign papers which I was told were to secure my bank account number into their system to make further payments later on.

Turns out these papers were contracts binding me to this gym with the only way out being death or permanent injury. I was then told to come back the next day for a free training session with a personal trainer. I did not get a free training session but instead got rushed into spending another $120 of my hard earned cash for a personal trainer that I did not need.

I tried to call and cancel everything to which they told me I had signed a contract saying that what I had paid is non-refundable. I was not told this information nor was I told that I was signing a contract. I am 19 years old and not very knowledgeable about contracts. The salesman was very personable and knowledgeable and I didn't know how to handle him.

I have posted on facebook about this scam and have heard from a few friends that this fitness center has tried to rope them into the same scheme.
