Port City Promotion Port City Enterprises Complete Scam, lies lies lies Charleston, South Carolina
31st of Dec, 2011 by User530465
It does not take much looking on the internet to find out what this place is all about. As a former employee that was lied to and cheated out of money, I feel it is my duty to inform the public of the truth.
Port City Promotions is a sales/door to door company owned and managed by a pushy, arrogant, liar we will call Mr. B. This office is part of a larger company known as the smart circle. In short, it is a pyramid scheme. P.C.P. works for a sketchy glass shop called 'dns autoglass', formally coast to coast auto glass. I was deceived and lied to and ended up working for p.c.p. for almost two months. They love to tell you how you will make 250k within a year and talk up how easy and quick it is to get there. "You will have your own office in 6 months and be making hundreds of thousands." Don't believe it. I saw many people work there 6months, 9months, a year and not get an office. Even 'Mr. B's own brother worked there for over a year and never advanced to anything. They tell you you make $50 every windshield you get signed up, and people who do bad and "suck" do at least 10 a week, so you have a $500 paycheck minimum. In reality, it is easy to SIGN UP 10 windshields a week, getting them installed is a different story. People may not be home, people cancel, the glass shop does not show up, or may not even make an effort to reach the customer, or any number of issues. Basically the average install rate is may be as high as 50%. So that is 5 windshields a week, which you get paid $44 a piece, not $50, and then taxes are taken out. What you end up with is maybe a $200 paycheck. I averaged about 8 or 9 installs a week in my time there, which was still only $300 a week. Another detail is to do this I had to work 70+ hours a week, including every Saturday. So i was making something like $4/hr.
Another bonus is you had to use your own vehicle. Driving from West Ashley to the other side of Mount Pleasant, Summerville, and Monks Corner really hits you in the gas tank. And you occasionally get the pleasure of picking other employees up from their homes and are requested to run other errands on your dime. And "Team Night" is a joke. Mr. B doesn't 'take out' his hardworking employees, he goes to the bowling alley with his cronies and gets drunk and tells everyone they have to come; again on their own dime. Big shot Mr. B who supposedly makes all this money can't pay for bowling for 15 people once a week? Come on.
Very importantly, the hours are insanely horrible! 10am-10pm 6 days a week, plus mandatory "team nights" and several other meetings through the week on top of that?! Oh, and if you wanted to get any of your "deals" installed you had better work through lunch and spend time out of work making phone calls and doing paperwork. Plus it is mandatory to work through rain, extreme heat and extreme cold. They also lie to you and give you fake permits, demand that you work in "No soliciting" neighborhoods, etc. I have seen employee's arrested for doing something they were told to do.
It is not impossible to make money here, but you are never going to make much. The odds of getting your own "office" are incredibly slim. Sadly for customers/victims of p.c.p., many of the employees are felons or have alcohol and/or drug problems, and have few options of work to choose from. But Mr. B is not afraid to use and abuse these people to make a dime. Unfortunately for the customer, the high turnover and overall low quality of the sales reps leads to many paperwork debacles, lies being told to your insurance company (fraud), and one big hassle. Even if you do manage to get a technician out to install your windshield, I personally had many installs go bad when the technician broke the windshield, installed it improperly or damaged other parts of the car. Oops.
Potential employees and customers alike; avoid DNS autoglass at all cost. They will only be known as such because they like to hide their real identity as p.c.p. If a p.c.p./dns sales rep approaches you in a parking lot/gas station/or at your front door, I would strongly advise a kind "no thankyou" and a closed door. Then proceed to call the police because most of the time what they are doing is breaking the law and these people need a wake up call. If you see a job add for p.c.p. I would also avoid it. It is so difficult to make any money here, and you are constantly bombarded with lies and deceit. Port City Promotions, located at an unlabeled suite behind Chick-fil-a, puts a whole new shine on the word scam!
