Polaris NYC pyramid scheme, un-ethical, scam, hiring factory, exploiting people, no health insurance benefits, commission only New York, New York
25th of Oct, 2011 by User449192
This is a pyramid scheme (and I'm thankful to have read these reports before my second round interview). Polaris NYC is pretty much a hiring factory selling office supply products. If you envision your career being a door-to-door salesperson selling office supplies for no money and no benefits than this is your "career." After a successful phone interview, I read up on this scam company but decided to go on the second round interview "because you never know." Before I did, I called them up and asked if "it was commission only" and if "there were health benefits" because I told them there are a lot of unfavorable things written online about them. The woman on the other line said "you mean that 'ripoffreport.com' and I say "yes." Her response was "I think those things are so funny." She continued by saying she had been there a year and everyone was entitled to their own opinion. That there were three different salary options (commission only, commission plus base, base plus bonus). This is a lie, I later found out. It's commission only. Also that they were changing their policy and there is health insurance options after 60 or 90 days... she wasn't sure. How she can work there and not be sure of a policy? I went anyway. I arrived for my all-day shadowing/interview to sit down next to 8 other people who were there for the same thing! I was introduced to a "new to new york" "bright eyed and bushy tailed" young, attractive person who I was going to walk around with. We went to Staten Island and proceeded to walk around for the entire day knocking on doors to small businesses, literally cold calling and asking if they wanted to buy copy paper and toner. I realized this is not for me. Of the miles we walked and doors we knocked on, we sold to only one customer a $150 order. I asked the person I was shadowing how much money he made for that and his response was: $70 (and that was with a "bonus" of having that person sign up on-line). Also, there is no health insurance. When I got back to their main office after walking around all day I asked about it and was told there is a "healthy bonus allowance" they give you of $75/month after 90 days. That's not health insurance. I'm not sure of their turnover but I'm sure it's high. Don't waste your time. They "promote from within" because its a pyramid scheme. They say you can eventually "run your own company" doing the same thing. Check it out:

http://www.pc-org.org/ Two "different" companies with the same website - they even used the same pictures. How lazy can you be? (Also, some have mentioned on here that they've changed offices. There are apparently a few "different companies" operating under this guise with the same premise and same major clients.) Thanks to others for also posting their experience. It really helped me out to read what other people had to write before I went into it myself.
